Medical and Injury Centre Nelson General Practice and Urgent Care All patients are assessed, treated and then referred back to their regular practitioner for on-going care.

Medical and Injury Centre is an accident and medical centre privately owned by Nelson Bays General Practice Ltd and Nelson Bays Primary Health Organisation. We are the only accident and medical centre in Nelson that operates 8am-10pm, 7 days per week and have been caring for the people of Nelson for over 20 years. Medical and Injury Centre runs a VLCA (Very Low Cost Access) practice for patients in our catchment area Mon-Fri 9am-5pm (except Public Holidays).. We work closely with over 20 General Practices in the Nelson area to ensure their patients have access to urgent care after hours. Unless requested by the patient, all patient notes are sent to their GP to ensure continuity of care. We also welcome patients who are visitors to Nelson and can provide them with the care they require whilst they are here. Our doctors are a mix of member GPs and our permanent general practitioners who are specially trained to provide general practice and accident related medical care. Our doctors are supported by highly skilled nurses, paramedics and administrative staff. Our Services

The Medical and Injury Centre is your after hours provider. We offer a ‘Walk In’ service 8am-10pm, 7 days a week and public holidays – no need to make an appointment. Our trained nurses/paramedics will triage patients and prioritise them according to their clinical need. After hours fees do apply. You can see us for any urgent medical issue that you would otherwise see your GP for, as well as accident related injuries such as sprains or cuts and broken bones. Walk in service

Please note: We do not provide medical certificates for WINZ benefits, immigration medicals or diving medicals. MIC Enrolled Patients:
MIC also offers enrolled patients FREE BP checks, Pregnancy Tests, Smoking Cessation Support, Annual Diabetes Reviews, Green Prescription and Cardiovascular Assessments, Cervical Smears and Childhood Immunisations.

MIC is an accredited Urgent Care Clinic, open 8am–10pm, seven days a week. We are located on the Nelson Hospital campus, just steps away from its Emergency Department, putting you right in the heart of Nelson’s acute healthcare environment while working within a friendly and supportive urgent care team.

Exciting July update!

We’re extending our doctor-led consultations, with on-site doctors available until 10pm throughout most of July. This means easier access to timely medical care and injury treatment when you need it most.

As a Medical & Injury Centre, we know health concerns don’t stick to business hours. These extended doctor hours help ensure patients can get prompt care for unexpected injuries or acute illnesses.

Alongside our in-person doctors, we’ll continue offering on-site Telehealth where appropriate, and our experienced nursing team will remain available throughout the day and evening.

We’re proud to expand our service and strengthen our commitment to accessible, high-quality care for local families, visitors, and anyone needing urgent medical support.
