β¨Celebrating five years with these beauties
My dread journey so far:
β€οΈ 2017: Just had a haircut. Poker straight fine hair, lots of it - looks wavy because I had it in French plaits
𧑠Oct 2018: Locs created intentionally with a crochet hook. A brief tidy up 6 weeks later - nothing since
π 2019: Very messy hair for nearly two years. Lots of crazy shrinkage and looping. Loved it!
π 2020: Cut a fair bit off giving blunt ends. Longer to dry. Brushed out ends again and bleached for first time.
π©΅ 2021 - 2023: Bleached twice more. Always in sections - never going over previous bleach. Approx 4 times a year brushing ends out to keep length under control and let go of the original crochet installation. Gives great patchwork effect.
π Dec 2023: I have quite a few established baby dreads. Bleach is growing out and I have brushed out a lot of the original bleach. Have approx 1-2β of original crocheted loc left, should be gone by next Christmas π«Ά
π€ Rip care: No maintenance other than tearing apart when wet as they stick together like velcro.
π€ Wash care: Simple natural shampoo bar with either coconut oil or tea tree / lavender washing once every 2 weeks in winter and weekly in summer. Lots of dips in rivers and the sea. Salt water tightens them beautifully. Deep cleaned them twice in the earlier days: Baking soda / ACV.
π€ Brush care: Brushing out the ends keeps the weight down and loses a lot of accumulated lint and anything else itβs taken a fancy to π€£ Loose ends = speedy drying. No longer worry about deep cleaning them.
β¨ They do not need any help. They lengthen, twist, shorten, lengthen, twist, shorten all by themselves πβοΈπ¦ Little dread seeds form after a few years, tiny knots that grow and lengthen π«Ά
β¨ Natural hair growth now comes through wavy ππ Natural locs grow super fast once established and do not go crazy with loops and bumps.
β¨ The natural dread is far softer and springier than the crocheted dread and Iβm off to brush out some more π«Ά
Merry Christmas lovelies π
