💙 Standing Together for Whānau

On August the 17, a few of our kaimahi joined the Big Sleepout at Seymour Square, alongside businesses, community groups, and local organisations committed to supporting people experiencing homelessness in Marlborough.

The event brought participants together who raised more than $46,000 for homelessness services delivered by Christchurch Methodist Mission (CMM), Manu Ora, and Crossroads Marlborough.

For many of us, one cold night sleeping outside was a powerful reminder of the challenges faced by those without a safe place to call home. Hearing stories from people with lived experience highlighted the importance of services that provide not only housing, but hope, dignity, and a pathway forward.

A huge thank you to everyone who participated, donated, volunteered, and supported this kaupapa. Your generosity will help ensure whānau experiencing homelessness have access to the support they need to create brighter futures.

Together, we can make a difference.

Mā te huruhuru ka rere te manu. 🕊️

The last few months have been a busy and rewarding time for our He Tangata Driver Licensing Service. These photos capture just a small glimpse of the many whānau who have worked hard towards gaining their licences and building their confidence on the road.

A special highlight was our Timatanga o te Haerenga programme in June, where every participating whānau member achieved success. Since then, Emani has continued to support many more people through lessons and practical driving experience.

Although winter illness meant a few lessons and tests needed to be postponed, our whānau have continued to show resilience and dedication to achieving their goals.

He mihi nui ki a koutou katoa mō tō whaktutuki. We celebrate every step forward and look forward to supporting many more successes ahead.

Our Wairau Open Day was all about whanaungatanga. 🤝

On Monday, we opened the doors of our new tari and welcomed whānau, partners, and members of our community to come and visit, have a kōrero, share some kai, and see our new space.

It was a wonderful opportunity to connect, strengthen relationships, and celebrate being together. Thank you to everyone who took the time to join us. We look forward to many more conversations and opportunities to work alongside our community in this new space. 💚

" Nau mai, hoki mai Jackie!

We are delighted to welcome Jackie Simpkins, a proud Whakatū wahine, back home to Nelson and to our Whakatū Hauora Hub at 199 Nayland Road. With the support of Te Whatu Ora Maternity Services and working alongside Te Piki Oranga, Jackie will be providing midwifery care for hapū māmā and whānau from October 2026.

After several years working in rural health in South Waikato, Jackie returns home with a passion for supporting whānau-led birth journeys. She is committed to providing safe, culturally responsive, and compassionate care throughout pregnancy, birth, and the postnatal period, ensuring whānau feel informed, empowered, and supported every step of the way.
Jackie feels privileged to walk alongside whānau during one of life's most precious journeys.

Tere Taukomo’s legacy continues to shine. ✨

Some of you may be aware that in September 2025, Tere Taukamo received the Marlborough Volunteer Service Growth Award in recognition of her outstanding service and dedication to whānau throughout the Marlborough district.

Continuing to honour this legacy, the Marlborough Volunteer Awards 2026 saw the presentation of a new award, the inaugural "Light The Way" Award. Honouring the late Tere Taukamo, the award recognises the qualities she embodied throughout her life, leadership, aroha, compassion, and service to others.

The inaugural award was presented to Sarah Carberry of the Farewell Trust, acknowledging her commitment to supporting people and strengthening community connections. In a moving tribute, the award was presented by Tere’s partner, Jane Stammers, and stepdaughter, Sophie Stammers, making the occasion especially meaningful for all who knew and loved Tere.

The establishment of the Tere Taukamo "Light The Way" Award is a fitting recognition of Tere’s enduring impact on whānau and communities across Marlborough, ensuring her legacy of kindness, service, and uplifting others continues to inspire future generations. ❤️
