Exciting progress at Blue Endeavour 🌊🐟

The two pilot pens are now in place, and our team is busy with onsite training and fish transfers with our new wellboat, Ronja King.

Check out the latest video update and hear from Grant Lovell, NZKS GM of Aquaculture, as he shares an update on progress so far and what's coming next for Blue Endeavour.

International partnerships and expertise are playing a critical role in delivering the project, and NZKS is working alongside Scale AQ and Sølvtrans AS world leaders in aquaculture infrastructure and wellboat technology respectively.

Our local contractors also played an important role in the installation of the mooring grid and pens - Johnsons Barge Service Ltd, O'Donnell Park Barging Limited.

NZKS also acknowledges the co-funding of this project by the Ministry for Primary Industries Sustainable Food and Fibre Futures fund (recently changed to the Primary Sector Growth Fund).

We’re incredibly proud to support Special Olympics Basketball Nelson and celebrate the amazing achievements of local athletes Suzy Yadav and Shannon Brandford. 🏀👏

After helping Special Olympics Nelson bring home bronze medals at the 2025 National Games in Christchurch, Suzy and Shannon have now been selected for the official Whaikaha Basketball Trust squad, a huge achievement and a testament to their talent, focus, and dedication.

From Nelson to representing New Zealand on the international stage in Australia, Bangkok, and potentially Cairo, this is an exciting next step and one the whole region can be proud of.

At New Zealand King Salmon, we’ve proudly supported Special Olympics Nelson Basketball for several years, helping provide uniforms, equipment, and opportunities for athletes to compete and connect through sport. Seeing athletes thrive both on and off the court is exactly why partnerships like this matter.

Congratulations again to Suzy and Shannon, and to the coaches, volunteers, families, and wider community who help make opportunities like this possible. 💙

Congratulations to our Tentburn Aquaculture team member, Isha Sharma, on being awarded a Women in Aquaculture Aotearoa leadership scholarship sponsored by Aquaculture New Zealand 👏

As an Early Life Stage Supervisor, Isha plays an important role in caring for our fish from the egg stage through to early growth, combining scientific precision with genuine dedication every day. Alongside guiding teams and supporting operations, Isha brings passion, care, and commitment to everything she does.

The scholarship will see Isha take part in the AWDT “It’s All About YOU” leadership development programme, designed to support women in the early stages of their leadership journey by building confidence, self-awareness, and leadership skills.

With nearly 30 applicants from across the country, this is a fantastic achievement and a reflection of Isha’s hard work and talent. We’re proud to see her recognised and excited to support her continued growth within the aquaculture sector.

Congratulations again, Isha! 🐟💙

We had great afternoon spent with the Queen Charlotte College, Picton New Zealand students talking about NZKS and the and the many career pathways available across our industry. In NZKS alone we have more than 170 different roles across the motu, from accounting, logistics, and sales to farm technicians and everything in between. There really is something for everyone in the salmon industry!

“It was a fantastic day, and it was great to see so much curiosity, energy, and enthusiasm from the next generation… although the lollies and choccy fish on offer may have helped too,” said General Manager People and Culture Nikki Rackley.

The New Zealand King Salmon Winter Race Series got underway last weekend at the Waikawa Boating Club, marking the start of this year’s season running from late April through to the end of August. ⛵

This long-standing series brings together a strong mix of local sailors and supporters, reflecting the strength of the region’s boating community. It’s a great opportunity to connect on the water throughout the winter months!

If you’re a local with an interest in sailing, the club welcomes new participants and members, with a friendly and welcoming club atmosphere.

Here are a few snapshots from their recent New Year Regatta 📷

We’re proud to support our local community on the water.

🚢 The Ronja King has arrived! 🐟

Today, our new wellboat, the Ronja King, officially joins our NZKS fleet, having arrived this morning at the Port Marlborough Picton Marina after a ~70-day journey from Norway. The excitement level is real!

The Ronja King is owned and operated by Sølvtrans AS a global leader in wellboat services. The name ‘Ronja King’ honours Sølvtrans’ tradition – ‘Ronja’ combines the names of the founders’ children, with ‘King’ recognising its connection to NZKS and the King salmon species.

At 57 metres long, a wellboat is a specialised vessel designed to transport live fish in large, carefully controlled seawater tanks.

For the next few weeks, the Ronja King will be completing final onboarding and operational checks at the Port. Once fully operational, the vessel will begin carrying out farming support activities.

Keep your eyes peeled for the Ronja King when it begins its work around the Sounds, and beyond at our new Blue Endeavour open ocean farm coming soon! If you see the RK out and about - send us some pics!

We are pleased to celebrate the opening of the new Westshore warehouse at Port Marlborough 🐟

This purpose-built 3,200sqm facility will be a key fish feed storage hub for NZKS, helping bring feed closer to our Marlborough seafarms and supporting the growth of our Blue Endeavour open ocean farm.
A major benefit of the facility is improved efficiency and sustainability gains. The company estimates that road transport associated with the movement of salmon feed between Nelson and Picton will reduce by more than 90%.

The opening was marked with a dawn ceremony led by Te Ātiawa o Te Waka-A-Māui Trust alongside representatives from Port Marlborough, NZKS, and Waikawa Fishing Company Ltd.

A strong step forward for Marlborough’s blue economy and the future of aquaculture.

What a fantastic day at this year’s Havelock Mussel & Seafood Festival 🦪

We’re proud to have raised $4,120.10 in partnership with Forest & Bird Te Hoiere Bat Recovery Project, supporting one of the last remaining populations of pekapeka-tou-roa (long tailed bats) in the top of the South Island. Bats are New Zealand’s only native land mammals, and long-tailed bats are now classed as "Nationally Critical."

On the day, our amazing team of volunteers served up a Regal Marlborough King Salmon dish created by Antony Page, with all proceeds from the dish, and a raffle featuring a Regal voucher and Omega Plus pet food products, going directly to the project.

As our Chief Executive Carl Carrington says, the company is proud to support local initiatives through sponsorship of the Havelock Mussel & Seafood Festival.

"We are pleased to play a small part in helping Te Hoiere Bat Recovery Project to raise awareness about the presence of pekapeka-tou-roa in the area, and the need for community engagement and action to protect this taonga species.”

A big thank you to everyone who supported us 💚

We’re thrilled to support native wildlife at the Havelock Mussel & Seafood Festival🦇💚

This year, all funds we raise at the festival will go towards Forest & Bird Te Hoiere Bat Recovery Project, a vital conservation effort protecting one of Aotearoa’s most unique and endangered species.

The pekapeka-tou-roa (long-tailed bat) is New Zealand’s only native land mammal, and the Te Hoiere/Pelorus catchment area is home to one of the last remaining populations in the top of the South.

Threatened by introduced predators like rats, stoats and cats, and habitat loss, these bats face a very real risk of extinction.

The Te Hoiere Bat Recovery Project works to restore and protect bat habitat through predator control, native tree planting, w**d management and seasonal monitoring, all supported by dedicated volunteers and community partners.

✨ Tickets for the Festival are still available, so come along, enjoy great seafood, and help us make a difference for our native bats!
