Not all bodies respond the same way — and that’s okay.

What works for one person (like “adult tummy time”) might not suit another.

At Osteopathy Nelson, we take the time to:
✔ Listen to your story
✔ Understand your body
✔ Tailor care to you

Because your body isn’t a template — it’s individual.

✨ And often, it’s the small 2% changes that make the biggest difference.

If something doesn’t feel right, let’s explore it together.

“Toe Pain & Mobility Matters”
Bunions, stiff toes, or painful big toe joints?

They may seem small, but toe pain can seriously affect your gait, balance, and comfort — especially when walking or standing for long periods.

At Osteopathy Nelson, we assess your whole stride — including how your toes are (or aren’t) moving. Treatment may include:
🦶 Joint mobilisation
💆 Soft tissue release
🧘 Exercises to improve foot awareness and coordination

Sometimes even improving toe flexibility can ease knee or back pain over time.

🦶 Every joint counts — even the little ones.

“Yoga as a Tool for Self-Compassion”
So many patients come to yoga thinking they have to be stronger, fitter, calmer — more something.

But here’s the truth: yoga is not a place to fix yourself. It’s a place to meet yourself, just as you are.

At Osteopathy Nelson, we embrace yoga as a practice of self-compassion. Each breath, each movement, each pause becomes a chance to listen to your body and respond with kindness.

You don’t need to be flexible. You don’t need to get it “right.” You just need to show up — and let your body feel safe to soften.

Benefits our patients often describe:
🌬️ Feeling more grounded
🫶 Reconnecting with themselves
🧠 Letting go of performance pressure

Yoga isn’t about becoming someone new — it’s about remembering who you already are.

🕯️ You are worthy of care, exactly as you are.

“That Pain Down the Back of Your Leg?”
If you feel a burning, aching, or electric pain travelling from your lower back down into your leg — that might be sciatica.

But here’s the thing: sciatica is a symptom, not a diagnosis.

At Osteopathy Nelson, we take time to find the cause. It could be a disc irritation, tight glute muscles, inflammation, or nerve entrapment — and each needs a different approach.

Our osteopaths use hands-on treatment to ease pressure on the sciatic nerve, reduce inflammation, and improve mobility in the spine, hips, and pelvis. We also give gentle home-based movement tips to support healing.

You don’t have to keep stretching it or hoping it goes away. Let’s find out what your body is trying to say.

“Repetitive Strain from Work or Parenting?”
Lifting tamariki, loading groceries, working at a desk all day… it’s no surprise your shoulder might start to complain.

Repetitive movements — especially when posture is compromised — can lead to inflammation, tendon fatigue, or dull, chronic pain.

At Osteopathy Nelson, we treat overuse injuries with a whole-body approach: restoring balance across the spine, ribs, shoulder, and arm while addressing nervous system tension that often accompanies chronic discomfort.

You don’t need to wait until it becomes unbearable. Early care = faster recovery.

And yes — parenting, desk jobs, and daily life count as real strain.

🙌 Supporting the strong, the tired, and everyone in between

“Painful Latch? It’s Not Just You.”
If every feed feels sharp, pinching, or just plain sore — it’s easy to feel discouraged. But painful breastfeeding isn’t a sign that you’re failing. It’s a sign something’s not quite right — and it’s okay to ask for help.

Pain during latching can stem from shallow latch patterns, tension in baby’s jaw, face or tongue, or difficulty opening the mouth wide enough to take a full breast.

At Osteopathy Nelson, we offer gentle treatment that may help relieve these patterns. Cranial osteopathy can support soft tissue release in the jaw, cheeks, and neck — improving comfort for baby and easing the strain on you.

We’ve seen many patients experience softer latches, less ni**le damage, and more relaxed feeds with just a few sessions.

You’re not alone in this. Support is available.

Adult Tummy Time

“Adult tummy time… helpful or hype?”

You may have seen “adult tummy time” trending — lying on your front to counter hours of sitting.

For some people, it can:
✔ Encourage gentle spinal extension
✔ Reduce prolonged slouching
✔ Reintroduce forgotten movement

But here’s the key…
⚖️ It’s not a cure-all

If you have back pain, disc issues, or injury, this position may not suit you.

At Osteopathy Nelson, we help guide what movements are right for your body.

✨ It’s not about trends — it’s about what works for you.

“Woke Up With a Shoulder You Can’t Move?”
Waking up with a painful, stiff shoulder can be both frustrating and alarming. Whether it’s from an awkward sleep or a condition like frozen shoulder (adhesive capsulitis), early treatment can make a big difference.

At Osteopathy Nelson, we help patients with shoulder stiffness using gentle techniques to ease joint restriction, improve blood flow, and reduce inflammation.

Frozen shoulder in particular can feel like a long, slow journey — but you don’t have to walk it alone. Our 45-minute sessions give you space to be properly heard and treated at your pace.

We’ll also provide simple, safe mobility strategies to support healing between visits.

You deserve to move without pain.

Transform How You Understand & Work with Human Movement

Workshop with Phillip Beach, DO
The Contractile Field (CF) Model of Human Movement

At Osteopathy Nelson

Who is this for?
Osteopaths, manual therapists, movement specialists, physiotherapists, chiropractor, pilates and yoga instructors, and anyone who works with people’s movement and posture.

Why This Workshop Matters

Most movement models still see the body in isolated parts — regions, muscles, or joints.
But human movement is whole-body, dynamic, and patterned. Phillip Beach’s Contractile Field model reframes how we conceptualise movement, posture and biomechanical ease — giving you a new lens to assess and support your clients.

This isn’t about memorising protocols — it’s about understanding movement as an integrated, organism-wide presence.

What You’ll Discover

A Whole-Organism Movement Model
Instead of thinking about single muscles or joints, the CF Model maps interactive fields of contractility that run through the body — like patterns that guide how we twist, bend, breathe, walk, and stabilise. These fields relate deeply to embryology and evolutionary biomechanics.

Movement with Meaning
Each contractile field links movement with sensory input — because sense organs (like the ear, eyes, etc.) are embedded in these pathways. This integrates how we feel movement with how we move.

Archetypal Postures as Tools
Simple ‘floor postures’ — squatting, cross-legged sitting, kneeling — are not just static positions. They are self-tuning postures that help your body retune to its natural patterns and improve ease and alignment.

Practical Applications to Your Practice
Learn ways to:

assess whole body tune and imbalance

apply movement-based insights therapeutically

rethink posture and movement quality from a field perspective

integrate CF concepts into exercise guidance and hands-on work

Who Phillip Beach Is

Phillip is an osteopath, Acupuncturist and author whose work explores how movement patterns emerge from biology, sensory systems and whole-body mechanics. His ideas build on evolution, embryology and clinical experience to offer a fresh model of movement — moving beyond isolated structures to fields of integrated activity.

What You’ll Walk Away With

A clear, whole-body framework for understanding movement
Practical assessment tools based on archetypal postures
Ways to apply CF concepts to long-term biomechanical ease
Enhanced confidence in working beyond protocol-based therapy
