Another weekend of learning and upskilling with the incredible Dr Stefania Roberts and NZSCM, completing an advanced aesthetic ultrasound course. ๐Ÿ’‰๐Ÿ“š We focused on facial ultrasound to better identify vascular anatomy and help reduce the risk of vascular occlusion during cosmetic procedures. We also explored ultrasound-guided injections to improve precision, accuracy and patient safety.

A great couple of days of learning, catching up with colleagues, and keeping the medical brain cells ticking over. Because apparently being a doctor means you never quite stop studying! ๐Ÿ˜‚

NAD+ has become one of the latest buzzwords in the anti-ageing world, with many clinics promoting injectable treatments as the next breakthrough. While NAD+ is an essential coenzyme involved in cellular energy production, DNA repair, and metabolic function, the science surrounding injectable NAD+ for anti-ageing is still evolving. At present, there is insufficient high-quality clinical evidence to support routine injectable NAD+ therapy for aesthetic or longevity purposes, and it is not approved by Medsafe in New Zealand for these indications.

There are also important theoretical safety considerations. Because NAD+ supports cellular metabolism and growth, researchers have raised concerns that increasing NAD+ availability could, in certain circumstances, also support the growth and survival of existing cancer cells. This does not mean that NAD+ has been proven to cause cancer, but the relationship between NAD+ biology and cancer is complex and remains an active area of research. Until robust long-term safety data are available, it is wise to approach these treatments with caution.

Choose evidence-based medicine over marketing trends. Ask about the scientific evidence, regulatory status, and long-term safety before consenting to any treatment. Your health deserves more than hype.
