Taranaki Health Foundation

Taranaki Health Foundation To enable the best possible healthcare via key projects that will make a significant difference to our Taranaki region.

Taranaki Health Foundation - why are we fundraising? The goal of the Taranaki Health Foundation is to enable the best possible healthcare in our region. We do this by fundraising on behalf of the TDHB to deliver new technology, enhancements and services over and above Government funding provided to the Taranaki DHB. The stark reality is that the variety of initiatives we are working on simply wou

ldn’t be possible without the generous support of the community. Successful partnership projects so far have included: Project Maunga Stage 1, new health technologies, staff training, equipment to improve patient outcomes, a new Mobility Garden and of course the new 3.6 million dollar Angiography Suite at Base Hospital to name a few. Our current fundraising efforts are now focused on Stage 2 of Project Maunga, the $300M+ East Wing development, and we are kicking it off with the Renal Unit relocation/build. Our current $25M project will join a range of enhancements gifted to the Taranaki DHB for the benefit of all Taranaki communities. We acknowledge the regional history of health fundraising to provide vital improvements and enhancements for Taranaki communities. We hope that with your support we can continue to ensure we have the best possible health outcomes for our region.

A big thank you to the boys from New Plymouth Boys' High School for their annual "Do something for Nothing" volunteering day. A group of boys came to Taranaki Base Hospital to do some maintenance on the Renal Unit | Te Huhi Raupō garden on Wednesday afternoon, saving approximately $5,000 in maintenance costs, and ensuring our dialysis patients continue to enjoy the stunning view during treatment.

Meanwhile, another group of NPBHS students had a bake sale to raise money for the Taranaki Cancer Centre | Te Hōpua Whakahauroa. We are very grateful to New Plymouth Boys High School for their continued support

We need your help! We are looking for volunteers to help direct people in the New East Wing Building once it is open. The new building is home to Emergency, Maternity, Neonatal, Radiology and ICU - and you can help people get to where they need to be.

You will be fully inducted and shown around the new building to make sure you can direct people to where they need to be. You will be able to volunteer for the hours that suit you.

If you would like to know more, either send us a message here, or email us at [email protected], and we will be in touch.

Congratulations to Taranaki Health Foundation trustee John Flowers on being awarded the Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit (MNZM)

He has helped organise a homeless shelter and run local boards, but New Plymouth’s John Flowers has a new challenge: convincing his daughter on a new tattoo.

Yesterday was budget day! As always, there are winners and losers, but what we are excited about are the new rules around charity donations. Three key things affect our donors:

1) There will be a cap on the amount of money you can claim tax back on. The cap will be $100,000, which would mean a maximum tax credit of $33,000

2) Donors can receive their donation tax credit refunds throughout the year in certain circumstances, rather than waiting until the end of the tax year

3) Donors will be able to gift their donation tax credit back to charity

We are very excited about the third point. By donating your tax credit back to the charity, you will be able to have a 33% increase in the impact your gift has. So a $100 donation from you will mean we receive $133 to invest in local healthcare.

These rules don't come into effect until the 2027/28 financial year. We will keep our donors up to date so they can make the most of their donations.

It takes a special kind of person to commit to a cause and regularly donate. If every person who follows our page committed to donating $15 a month for one year, almost $250,000 would be donated to local healthcare enhancements.

On average, our regular donors' gifts have 4 x the impact of one-off gifts. Regular giving also spreads your generosity over time, reducing the impact on your household budget.

Gifts can be set up, altered or cancelled at any time. To find out more and create a gift, visit https://thf.org.nz/regular-giving.

Happy Mother's Day to the new mums who didn't quite manage to hold on until the new maternity unit is opened. Sorry you didn't get to experience the new facilities, but we are sure your bundles of joy made up for it.

To those who have lost their mums, whether recently or in the past, we hope you can spend time today remembering them.

And to those who need a last-minute Mother's Day gift, consider a donation to the Taranaki Health Foundation in their name. Donate today, and your mum's name can be on our donor recognition space for years to come. Donate online at thf.org.nz

We've talked a lot recently about how amazing the New East Wing Building | Te Rau Mātāpuna O Taranaki is, but the outside is just as stunning, especially at night. With the rooftop helipad lit up, it's a true beacon for those who need critical care.

With a new ED, Maternity, Neonatal, Radiology, and ICU, chances are high that you or someone you love will use this facility one day. Thanks to the generous donations from our community, every department will have those little touches that make a patient's stay more comfortable, along with more rooms, advanced diagnostic tools, and more opportunities for people to be treated right here at home. Taranaki is incredibly lucky.

⏳ Time is running out to have your name on the donor recognition wall. Donate today and leave a lasting legacy for generations of Taranaki whānau to come. Donations can be made online at thf.org.nz/taranaki-deserves-the-best/

A big thank you to the Stratford Lions for donating $1,000. This money will go towards a recliner chair for ICU. Having comfortable chairs that can adapt and recline to support a variety of positions is vital for a patient's recovery.

There are several items that we are fundraising for. Some are for comfort, and some are an upgrade to the standard model that we would otherwise have. Either way, they will all enhance the care and recovery of hundreds of patients and are across all departments.

To donate an item, or contribute towards an item, visit thf.org.nz/equipment.
