I am incredibly humbled and grateful to share that I have been awarded the 2026 Te Pitomata Clinical Postgraduate Scholarship from Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora!

This grant is far more than financial support. To me, it represents recognition that mātauranga Māori, Tikanga Rongoā-led healing, and kaupapa Māori research have an important place in the future of health and well-being in Aotearoa.

As a Rongoā Māori practitioner heading into year three of my PhD at Te Whare Wānanga o Awanuiārangi, I explore ritual safety, wairua, and Indigenous healing practices.

My hope is that this work helps create greater understanding of culturally grounded approaches to well-being while contributing to safer, more holistic spaces for our whānau and communities.

For many years, I've worked across very different worlds—from the hair and makeup industry to Indigenous well-being—and choosing to undertake a doctorate was my way of backing the work I believe in.

This award gives me confidence that the journey is worthwhile and that these conversations belong within our health system.
Ngā mihi nui to Te Aka Whai Ora, Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora, my kaiako Dr Miriama Postlethwaite, my whānau, friends and everyone who continues to walk alongside me. Your belief and support make this journey possible.

The work continues. ❤️

I love me some arts & crafts! Creativity is always my happy place.
With all my PhD essays drafted and submitted, I had some very rare me time.
Candle making is one way I channel mauri-ora into my work tools and a great way to recycle the leftover pieces.
You can use a pan on the heat to do the job. However, when this wee machine came out, I had to have one. It makes the job a lot easier.
You can add colours and flowers to get the magic flowing.

Today, I was welcomed into the Torbay Gardening Club to introduce aspects of Rongoā Māori to their large group of keen members.
The brief was "discuss native plants and where they can be found."
What they received was an introduction to the Māori Maramataka, mātauranga Pāpā Delamare and Tohu Indigenous Ltd.
Some tikanga & kawa before, during, and after harvesting, and basic knowledge of Kawakawa.
Finishing with a fabulous kai of 4 different homemade soups and breads.

Educating tauiwi on te ao Māori is a neat space, as they're very eager to learn and are fascinated. When some asked why this wasn't common knowledge, I was able to touch on The Tohunga Suppression Act of 1907 and its later repeal.
🤩😇🥰

I'm all about Zero Waste, especially in the fashion industry, so when my boys' school invited me to learn more at The Waitakere Refuse & Recycling Transfer, I was very keen to learn where my rubbish goes.
The Zero Waste Zone was a fun, hands-on space.
We learned about reducing, reading, recycling household items & food scraps.

A wee photo dump of my activities in the last few months.
I'm here, there and everywhere. Enjoying wānanga, supporting kaupapa, attending live events, eating home-made kai, healing and reconnecting kiritaki to their divine selves, quality time with whānau and friends, & lots of sleep! 😆
I quietly navigate a peaceful and abundant journey of high vibration and healing in this realm ❤️ 😍

And she looks fabulous. My last Rongoā Māori session in the series uses mineral cosmetics to ritually reconnect my clients back to Papatūānuku. This reclaims a traditional process dating back to time immemorial and is still in use by the Nubian tribes of North Africa.
Do you know what you're putting on and in your body?

I enjoy disrupting spaces, I always have. I am not everyone's cup of tea; I challenge the status quo and identify gaps. I also find solutions.
As a current PhD researcher, my job is to back up my philosophies with facts. As a Rongoā Māori practitioner, I am guided by Tikanga Rongoā.
In this article, I was interviewed about what Rongoā Māori is from my perspective. And I can tell you it is not a massage!

When Clearhead’s Jo sat down with Rongoā Māori practitioner, hair & makeup artist, and researcher Bianca Fallon, the kōrero quickly revealed two themes that guided everything she shared: Rongoā Māori is centred on safety, and every practitioner and client is individual. Over more than an hour...

Before I recommend anything, I trial it.
I had a great experience at Hinē Rei, and Taiawa Steaming, also known as Yoni Steaming, was the highlight of the day.
The process is safe, tranquil and private. Using heat and rākau rongoā to cleanse, while listening to a meditation that helped keep me focused.
This service works for those who require negative or past energy within their whare tanagata removed through virginal steaming.
At the end, I noticed my lower regions were literally vibrating! That was a new experience for me.
EAP, Ignite and ACC funded.

Ok whànau I know I've been quiet of late 😊
I'm on a 10,000 word PhD Research Proposal submission deadline for this Sunday!
Literally juggling work, family, running a household & myself.
I have been writing 6 hours each evening for 8-weeks, and this week putting in 12+ days getting my draft pulled together from over 40, 000 + words written over the last 2 years!

Now, I landed on a wee trick from Trading & Nativeneem. I have 1 morning caramel latte with cinnamon & rock salt, & I added Lionsmane to it to support my focus, and it worked!
Give it a go, it's working for me.
