What is Yin Yoga? Yin yoga is a slow style of yoga. You hold passive poses for three to five minutes.

This targets your deep connective tissues instead of your muscles.

How It Affects Your Nerves - Your body has two main stress systems: Sympathetic system: This is your “fight or flight” mode. It reacts to daily stress and danger.

Parasympathetic system: This is your “rest and digest” mode. It helps you heal, calm down, and rest.

Yin yoga turns off your fight-or-flight mode. It turns on your rest-and-digest mode through long holds and deep breathing.

Key Benefits for Your Nervous System -

Lowers Stress Hormones: Staying still for a long time tells your brain that you are safe. This drops your cortisol levels.

Slows Heart Rate: Deep breathing during long holds lowers your blood pressure and heart rate.

Releases Stored Tension: Your fascia (connective tissue) holds tight when you feel stressed. Long poses melt this tension away.

Improves Emotional Control: You learn to notice physical discomfort without panicking. This helps you stay calm during real-life stress. 🕊️

Not sure which class to book?

🍃 Power Vinyasa is energising, strength-building and designed to get you moving.

🔥 Ta***ic Hatha is slower and more intentional, combining breath, movement and awareness to help you reconnect with yourself.

✨ Yin Yoga is deeply restorative, with longer-held poses that support flexibility, release tension and calm the nervous system.

The beautiful thing about yoga is that every practice offers something different, and what you need can change from week to week.

Forward folds calm your nervous system by physically lowering your heart rate, stretching tight back muscles, and turning your attention inward to block out stress.

As your head drops below your heart this triggers a reflex that slows your pulse down, your Vagus Nerve activates as the fold gently squeezes your belly. This turns on your body’s relaxation response.

What’s your favourite thing about a fold? 🤔

Yoga Twists, I’ve always been such a fan of twisting. There’s an old saying that I always revert back to which is
“if in doubt - Twist!”

Twisting is fantastic for Spine and Digestion health:

Twists keep your back moving well. They stretch tight muscles around your spine.

Better Digestion: The turning motion puts gentle pressure on your belly. This helps move food and gas through your gut.

Stress Relief & Calm Nerves: Twists slow your heart rate. They send a signal to your brain to relax.
