I didn’t come to Pilates through fitness. I came to it through rehabilitation.

After back surgery, local physio Mary Murdoch gave me some Pilates based exercises as part of my recovery.

What really struck me was how different some very familiar looking movements felt when I understood what I was actually meant to be stabilising, activating and controlling.

At the time, I was already teaching yoga and working a lot with movement and breath, so Pilates didn’t feel like a huge change of direction. It felt more like another piece of the puzzle. Another way of understanding how the body moves, supports itself and reconnects after injury.

And because I’m someone who always wants to know why, I kept learning, leading me to train in Classical Mat Pilates myself with Contrology Gymnasium - Classical Pilates.

That experience still really shapes the way I teach now.

My classes aren’t about simply getting through a workout. I want you to understand what you’re doing, why you’re doing it and what you should actually be feeling.

More than anything, I’d love to help you reconnect with your body.

If Pilates is new to you, I’d love to introduce you to it in a way that feels welcoming and approachable. You don’t need to arrive knowing what you’re doing. That’s what I’m there for.

Monday nights for the Blokes, Tuesday Mornings for All.

If you’ve been thinking about giving it a go, I’d love to see you there.

Much love

We all have those down days, and yesterday was one of them for me.

In yoga, they often refer to it as the mud, as in ā€œno mud, no lotusā€ 🪷

As I’m getting to know myself better, I’m learning that it’s okay to feel the the ebb and the yuckiness.

Being gentle with myself, having a meditate, taking a bath, moving my body and connecting with people all helped shift whatever it was.

Sometimes we just need to cut ourselves a bit of slack, honour where we’re at, and know and trust that ā€˜this moment will pass’.

A little hello šŸ‘‹šŸ¼ to the new faces around here.

This space is a window into Lisa Anderson Mind • Body • Breath, where I share my classes, offerings, learnings and the things I’m exploring along the way.

I also share things that might challenge you, make you smile or laugh, or maybe plant a little seed to question what we’ve been taught, what we’ve accepted, and what else might be possible.

Some things might resonate deeply. Some things might send you away to research and explore a little more. Some things you might completely disagree with.

And that’s totally okay.

I’m not here to tell anyone what to think, I’m just sharing the things that spark my curiosity, my own journey and the things that light me up.

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learnt is that other people’s opinions of me are actually none of my business.

If something I share helps you, opens your mind, makes you feel seen or simply adds something positive to your day — awesome, I love that.

And if I’m not your cup of tea… that’s okay too. Keep scrolling, find the things that are.

We’re all just here finding our people and shining our light✨

Much love

What a lot of people probably don’t realise about me is that alongside the Pilates, yoga and breathwork… I’m also a farmer’s wife.

This morning I was making smoko for the men down at the cattle yards during TB testing… while also studying for my advanced Mat Pilates exam, learning about crypto and decentralised money, picking quinces and walnuts from the garden, and getting dinner ready before the kids come home from boarding school.

My Nana’s life as a farmer’s wife looked very different to mine.
And yet somehow, parts of it are still exactly the same.

One foot in the old ways.
One foot in a rapidly changing world šŸ’«

Always evolving ā˜ŗļø

Loving where this life journey keeps taking me…

What started as teaching movement in my local community (which is still the ā¤ļø of where I teach) has slowly grown into something more, and now I find myself heading off to teach in some pretty special places.

Most weeks it’s a quiet Yin class in Otematata, other days it’s at Mt Cook Lakeside Retreat, where people are on holiday and taking a moment to reconnect. And I get to be part of that.

Different places, different views… but always the same intention - to slow down, to breathe, to move, or simply be still.

I feel so grateful that I get to do this, and for every one of you who shows up along the way✨

Much love
Lisa šŸ™šŸ’š
