Diabetes Foundation Aotearoa

Diabetes Foundation Aotearoa Working in partnership with the community to achieve better health for present & future generations.

For the latest information on our activities go to our Blog here https://www.diabetesfoundationaotearoa.nz/blog/ Our Vision statement is that "We want to prevent and reverse Diabetes - its prevalence and its damage - for Aotearoa New Zealand’s most high-risk communities". To do this, we have four supporting pou or pillars:

* Health & Wellness: We run programmes promoting health & wellness for peo

ple in the supportive environment of community and whānau. We consider Te Whare Tapa Whā principles of taha wairua/spiritual wellbeing, taha hinengaro/mental and emotional wellbeing, taha tinana/physical wellbeing and taha whānau/family and social wellbeing.

* Research: We undertake research, and co-design of high-quality community studies on diabetes to find ways to do things differently.

* Advocacy: We campaign for better equity and access to best practice treatment options. We share the experience of our community to all audiences acting for better outcomes for Diabetes in Aotearoa.

* Capacity Growth: We build capability for people and groups so our impact can extend through the community. We are building the capacity of our organisation to have more impact. We are based in Otara, and work closely with other organisations, including other NGOs, community groups, Primary Care, District Health Boards and government entities.

Excellent new paper from Kanchana Perera et al, using DCSS Audit data. The aim from the paper "Māori and Pacific adults in New Zealand (NZ) with type 2 diabetes are at high risk of Diabetic Kidney Disease (DKD). This study assessed whether the same was true in young-onset type 2 diabetes". The early response to our collaborative workplace survey is very heartening, but we'd really like more! Diabetes Foundation Aotearoa, MHT Diabetes, Diabetes Christchurch and Diabetes Wellington are working together for World Diabetes Day, to find out more about the workplace situation in Aotearoa New Zealand. Please help us out by filling in this short survey (anonymous), whether you're a business owner, manager, worker, or someone with diabetes who has a view on a workplace, it's all a help.
