Cervical cancer is one of the most preventable cancers, and regular screening can detect changes long before cancer develops. When found early, treatment is often simpler and more effective.
The recent announcement that cervical screening will become free for all eligible people aged 25-69 with a cervix from 1 March 2027 is a positive step for community health in Aotearoa.

But the most important thing is making sure you're up to date with your screening now.
If you're due, overdue, or have never been screened before, talk to your general practice or healthcare provider. For many people, screening can now be done with a simple HPV self-test, making it easier than ever to get checked.
