THINK Hauora

THINK Hauora THINK Hauora is the Primary Health Organisation (PHO) for the MidCentral district. What is primary care?

Well it's usually the first port of call when you or someone in your whānau needs health care or advice. The people you might see in primary care include (but are definitely not limited to) general practitioners (GPs), nurse practitioners, pharmacists, dietitians and long term conditions nurses. THINK Hauora exists to ensure that everyone living in our MidCentral communities have access to primary care, whenever they need it.

Today marks the start of Men’s Health Week (15–21 June) 💙
Too many men in Aotearoa are missing out on years of life, with 1 in 4 not making it to retirement age.

This week is a reminder to check in - with your health, your habits, and the people around you.

Small steps can make a big difference!

Hauora starts with us!

This week, we launched our EMBRACE wellbeing programme with PREKURE – and it was fantastic to see such a strong turnout from our kaimahi.

EMBRACE is all about supporting our people to prioritise their own hauora, with small, practical lifestyle changes and peer support over 12 weeks. Each participant has chosen a personal wero to focus on – a meaningful step toward better wellbeing.

At THINK Hauora, we know that to support our communities well, we need to take care of our own hauora first. This is one way we’re committing to “walking the talk”, and investing in our people so we can continue to show up at our best for others.

We look forward to see how this journey unfolds!

There’s still plenty of winter ahead ❄️ and it’s not too late to protect yourself and your whānau.
If you haven’t had your flu vaccination yet, now is the time. It takes around two weeks to kick in, so don’t wait until it hits your household!

Walk into your local pharmacy, phone your GP's office, or book online. Remember to check if you're eligible for a free vaccination: https://www.healthnz.govt.nz/health-topics/immunisations/booking-a-vaccine

Meet Deon.
He started his journey with our Physical Activity Service to improve his fitness and stay on track with his health. But he found a whole lot more than that.

With support from our team, he built his confidence and took the next step into the Here Toitū programme earlier this year. Since then, he's kept up regular gym sessions, worked on his hauora, and even completed driving training. He's now well on his way towards getting a restricted licence, which is a huge milestone!

On top of that, Deon has been building up his work skills too - things like CV writing, communication, and getting ready for job opportunities. His confidence has grown so much that he's approaching employers himself. This is what it's all about - small steps and the right support to make big changes over time.

Ka pai Deon, and thanks for letting us share your story.

Let's move to improve!
We’ve loved seeing this group get stuck into our Move to Improve sessions over the past few weeks 🙌
This programme is all about building confidence, moving in a way that feels right for you, and taking small steps towards better hauora — whether that’s physical health, learning new skills, or just connecting with others
From gentle exercises (seated or standing) to good chats over a cuppa ☕, it’s been awesome to see everyone supporting each other and giving it a go.
Even though this programme is already full and underway, we wanted to share a glimpse of what it’s all about
Keep an eye on our page for future opportunities — we’d love to have you join us next time!

👣Walking the talk🚶‍♂️‍➡️

We get together for a Wednesday Wellness Walk each week. These walks are about moving our bodies, getting some fresh air, taking a moment to reset, and walking the talk when it comes to our own hauora.
Because hauora isn't just about your physical health - it's about looking after your whole wellbeing.

Thank you to the incredible GPs and general practice teams who care for our communities every day.

Whether it’s helping you manage a long-term condition, supporting your whānau through tough times, or being there when you need care most, your family doctor is a vital part of your health journey.

We know general practice teams are working under pressure, and today is a chance to recognise the dedication, compassion and hard work they bring to their patients and communities.

👉 If you see your GP or practice team this week, take a moment to say thanks.
