🌿 What a fantastic afternoon at the Hub! 🌿

Yesterday, we were so lucky to have Gayelle from Mitre 10 MEGA Palmerston North join us for an inspiring gardening session 🌼

She shared a wealth of knowledge on plant care, practical gardening tips, and simple ideas to help our garden grow and thrive. It was great to see everyone getting involved—asking questions, sharing ideas, and learning together 🌱

Our new SLS Hub garden is already shaping up to be something really special, and this session has given us all the confidence to keep it growing 🌻

A big thank you to Gayelle for her time, energy, and expertise—we truly appreciate your support!

HUGE CONGRATULATIONS TO GREIG!

We are absolutely thrilled to celebrate our very own local legend, Greig, on being awarded Life Membership by Boccia New Zealand at their 2026 AGM!

This incredible honour recognises individuals who have made a massive impact on the sport from the grassroots level all the way to the international stage. And wow, what a legacy Greig has built over his phenomenal 25-year career representing both Manawatu and Canterbury!

We are incredibly proud to have someone of Greig's caliber, dedication, and heart in our community. Please join us in flooding the comments with congratulations for this well-deserved milestone! 🍾🎉

The face of freezing pain right there 🧊🥶

We did the Motor Neurone Disease NZ Ice Bucket Challenge… and yes, it was freezing!

While it’s all a bit of fun, Motor Neurone Disease is very real and affects thousands of people and their families every day. It’s a progressive, life-limiting disease with no cure — and that’s why this matters.

This cause also feels close to home for us, as we’ve supported Kiritaki through this disease 💙

If you can, please support the cause and donate 💙

Every bit helps make a difference.

Team SLS at the Pride Whanganui Hikoi

Last weekend we walked with pride, purpose, and aroha. We walk for those who couldn’t, and those who still can’t.

At SLS, allyship isn’t just words — it’s action. We’re proud to hold our Rainbow Tick certification and be part of the Safe Space Alliance network, showing our commitment to inclusion and respect for all.

Our kiritaki and kaimahi are supported to be their authentic selves every day. Through ongoing staff training, we ensure our team can confidently and respectfully support rainbow kiritaki, while our policies create a workplace where kaimahi feel safe, valued, and empowered to be who they are.

Standing together today reminds us that visibility matters, support matters, and community matters.

We see you. We support you. We walk with you.

Wow—after weeks of planning, we’re thrilled to have launched our inaugural Boccia meet!

A huge thank you to Parafed Manawatu for their incredible support in making this happen. We also want to give a massive shoutout to Greig, the absolute pride of the Manawatū in national and international boccia tournaments, for coming down and teaching us how to play!

Boccia is a precision ball sport where players aim to place their balls as close as possible to a target, combining strategy, skill, and a bit of friendly competition—great for all abilities and a lot of fun to play!

We can’t wait to do it again—join us next week at the Takaro Sports Club!
