Well, this certainly wasn’t the way we planned to end our holiday… 😔💔

If you’ve seen the news about a car being pursued by police crashing through a fence and ending up in a garage, that was our house. 😳

We’ve gone from enjoying our holiday and making our way home to a huge mess, damage and a very unexpected amount of cleaning up to do. Definitely a sh*tty end to what had been a wonderful break.

As upsetting as it all is, we are incredibly grateful that our house sitter was out at the time. That could have ended so very differently, and we are counting our blessings that nobody was hurt.

We also cannot thank enough everyone who has jumped in to help us — especially our son Paddy and his wife Tammy, our amazing builder Shane, the insurance assessor, Police, Fire and Emergency, and all our wonderful neighbours who have been there helping clean up, secure things and support us while we make our way home.

It really reminds you how quickly things can change and how important good people are when something like this happens. ❤️

A massive thank you to everyone who has helped us yesterday and reached out to Zac and I. We are truly grateful.

Now… time to head home and deal with the aftermath. 😔🏠💔

Monarch Ear Care will be back open Monday, but I think I’ll have a rather different story to tell when I see you all!🦋

🌿 Our Cape Reinga adventure has finally reached the top! 🌿

Well, we’ve clocked up a few hundred kilometres since my last update! 🚐💨

Leaving Pukekohe, we headed north to Paihia and Waitangi, where we spent a couple of beautiful days enjoying the sunshine and the peaceful surroundings. We then took the vehicle ferry across to Russell for a few hours of exploring before continuing our journey through Kerikeri and Kaitaia.

Our next stop was Pukenui, where we set up camp just 73km from Cape Reinga. And then yesterday… we finally made it! ❤️

Cape Reinga was absolutely breathtaking. 🌊🌿 The views were incredible, but what I loved most was learning more about the spiritual significance of this special place to Māori — it is believed to be where the spirits of our ancestors begin their journey home.

Not that you can tell just by looking at me, but I am part Māori, with my iwi being Ngāi Tahu, and my roots are in Southland, New Zealand. 🇳🇿❤️ So being at Cape Reinga and learning about the significance of this place made it feel even more special to me.

After travelling all the way north, today we’ve turned the caravan around and started our journey south. 🚐 We’ve got a few more stops to make and plenty more memories to create before reality calls — this time next week I’ll be back at Monarch Ear Care and back to work!

For anyone needing an appointment next week, online bookings are open now through our website:

It’s been an amazing trip so far, and we’re certainly not finished making memories yet! ❤️🚐🐾

🌴☀️ Holiday updates from Donna ☀️🚐

While Lori is enjoying the heat and sunshine in beautiful Bali 🇮🇩🌴, I’m enjoying my own little adventure here in New Zealand, heading towards Cape Reinga in my caravan with my husband Zac and of course our frenchie George! 🇳🇿🚐

We’ve had a couple of fantastic days so far, and it’s reminded me just how many amazing places there are right here in our own beautiful country. ❤️

A few favourites so far:
🖼️ The 3D Trick Art Gallery in Rotorua — so much fun!
🐾 Waihi Beach — George absolutely loved his beach walk!
🦋 And of course, we had to visit Butterfly Creek, where I finally got to see the butterfly house I’ve wanted to visit for ages!

I thought I’d share a few photos from our adventures with you all. 📸❤️

Just a little reminder that Monarch Ear Care is closed until Monday 31st August while I enjoy this much-needed break.

I’ll be back refreshed, recharged and ready to get back to looking after your ears! 👂😊

Until then, I’m going to keep enjoying our home on wheels and seeing where the road takes us. 🚐❤️

See you all soon!

🐘💙 HAPPY WORLD ELEPHANT DAY! 💙🐘

Today is World Elephant Day, and as many of our clients know, we have quite a large collection of elephants here at Monarch Ear Care! 🐘🐘🐘

So, of course, we couldn’t let today go by without giving a little shout-out to these beautiful, intelligent and amazing animals. ❤️

👂 FUN ELEPHANT EAR FACT! 👂

Did you know that no two elephants have identical ears?

Much like human fingerprints, the outer edges of an elephant’s ears have unique patterns, including different nicks, tears, holes and curves. Researchers can use these individual features to identify elephants in the wild. 🐘

And just like elephants, we need to look after our ears too! 👂❤️

If your ears are feeling blocked, full of wax or just in need of a little TLC, don’t forget to book your next ear cleaning appointment with Monarch Ear Care.

🐘 Happy World Elephant Day from our elephant family to yours! 🐘💙

🎉 Monarch Ear Care is 6! 🎉

Six years ago I took a huge leap of faith and started Monarch Ear Care from scratch with a dream, a lot of determination, and a passion for helping people with their ear health.

Today, we have reached 10,000 clients on our database and I honestly couldn’t be more proud or grateful for how far we’ve come. 🧡

Monarch Ear Care has grown into the successful small business it is through the support of loyal clients, kind recommendations, and an amazing word of mouth. Every appointment booked, every review shared, and every person who has recommended us to family and friends has helped make this possible.
To everyone who has trusted us with their ear care over the years, thank you. Your support means the world to me us.
It’s been an incredible journey so far, and the best part is… we’re still growing! Here’s to the next chapter of Monarch Ear Care. 👑

Thank you for being part of our story. 🦋

Today on Anzac Day, we take a moment to truly reflect on why this day matters.
It’s more than a date on the calendar — it’s a time to remember the courage and sacrifice of those who served, and to honour the many who gave their lives and never returned home to their families.

It’s also a reminder that, even today, there are still conflicts happening around the world. Families are still being affected, and lives continue to be changed forever by war.

Today is not only about looking back, but also about hoping for a future where peace is possible — a world where sacrifice like this is no longer needed.
We remember those we have lost, we stand with those still impacted, and we hold onto hope for a more peaceful world.

Lest we forget 🌺

With the weather cooling down, it seems even the bugs are looking for a nice warm place to hide… unfortunately, that’s been people’s ears 🫣🪳

As a Registered Ear Nurse for the past 12 years I have removed all sorts of things from clients ear's. Last week I removed my first cockroach 🪳🦗 from a client’s ear 😳… another client had a fly 🪰 and a few days after, an unidentified flying insect 🦟made an appearance too. Safe to say, ears have been very popular with the bug community lately!🫣🪳

A little reminder though—ear wax (cerumen) is NOT dirty. It actually plays an important role in protecting your ears. One of its jobs is to help trap and even smother unwanted visitors (yes… including bugs!).

If you ever feel something crawl or fly into your ear, try not to panic. The best thing to do is:
👉 Gently pour olive oil into the ear to drown/stop the insect
👉 Then seek help from a trained ear professional (like me!) to have it safely removed

Please don’t poke around or try to get it out yourself—you can easily push it further in or cause damage.

Ears are delicate, but they’re also pretty clever at protecting themselves 😊

Stay safe… and maybe keep an extra eye out for those creepy crawlies this season! 🐜
