1. 1. The first point is a bit of a shame really, being overcharged for a tattoo, especially your first. I think my first tattoo was overpriced looking back, but I quickly learnt the pricing vs quality ratio. You do get what you pay for mostly, but I’ve had incredible artists price work lower for me and then had to over pay artists for work I think was rushed. Don’t be scared to pay up, but do your best to get a fair deal.
2. 2. There’s nothing wrong with asking “does this spot hurt” but it doesn’t actually indicate whether that spot will hurt for YOU, neither does it gauge your pain tolerance, or your mental resilience/calmness. So ask away and learn what you can, but remember one shoe doesn’t fit all!
3. 3. There’s so much talk about trusting your artist, and if you are getting a random piece of their art then yes 100%, if you want them to have creative freedom over your idea then yes again 100%. For your first tattoo however if you are wanting a small word, animal or symbol for example, make sure that is exactly what you get. I don’t say this to encourage you to be stubborn, if it’s too small it’ll blur out over time and that’s that, so do listen, just don’t be overpowered or swayed.
4. 4. I can give you all the advice in the world but at the end of the day your first tattoo should be an awesome experience! It might hurt a little in some places and more in others, some spots you may love the weird feeling, just buckle up and enjoy the process 😎
