I also acknowledge my Walsh, Irish & English ancestry. In the early 60's, my parents came to Mt Maunganui to get married. I was born & raised there. As a teenager, I lived on our whenua in Whakakī (Nth of Wairoa) where I connected with my Kuia, on a spiritual level, who was the healer there. However, work life soon took over. After 21 years working on construction sites, I decided to study at Toi Ohomai in 2006 to become a Personal Trainer. I then worked there for 15 years. I bring these skills forward to assist people in gaining the best outcome. In 2017, I finally acknowledged the consistent calls from my Kuia (Spiritually) to start learning rongoā māori. Firstly, with Jolie Davis & then with Atarangi Murupaenga. Their guidance towards my growth & development within the traditional Māori healing teachings has been life changing on all levels of being. It has been fast, intense & challenging at times however, necessary. The learning is continuous & for life! Faith & trust in my pathway led to the opening of:
TE AO MĀRAMA TRADITIONAL MĀORI BODYWORK
We are the healers of ourselves! Life's challenges can cloud this realization. At times we need assistance to help facilitate this process to remember & reconnect to the true essence of who we are. Just like the butterfly, without the struggle & fight through adversity, it would not be able to build the strength needed to break out of the darkness & into the light. A transformative process to freedom of being. Tools of guidance, education, support, advice are provided to empower & uplift until people are ready to take over the reins of healing for themselves. Self-responsible, self-accountable. It all starts with a choice! Healing is not a destination; it is a way of being. We need to be shapeshifters that adapt & change with the flow of life. To regularly practice self-honouring. SERVICES.....

ROMIROMI / MIRIMIRI / WHITIWHITIKŌRERO:
Traditional Maaori bodywork can help to release stress, tension & trauma held deep within the body at a cellular level that has accumulated through life's experiences. The movement is slow to get the depth needed for release to take place. It’s not about causing pain; it’s extracting pain to awaken the body, mind & spirit. To remember who you are, as a spiritual being having a physical experience. MAHI RAAKAU - SELF HELP/HEALING
One of the traditional practices of our Traditional Māori Healing Arts. Working the body with a Raakau (stick). The use of the he Raakau will help people discover the places and parts of the body that are challenged. It will always move the user to a deeper level of awareness of self that may have been forgotten. The feet are considered the gateway to the body, so therefore must be worked on first. To open the body up, ignite the internal organs and to instantly bring people into the here & now. A sequence is used to work sections of the feet which correspond to sections of the torso. The movement is slow to get the depth needed to release stored tension, stress & trauma. The work can trigger memories, injuries, past life patterns. It’s not about causing pain; it’s about awakening the body, mind & spirit. Once the feet have been opened, a larger Rākau is used to work the torso in sections. Wānanga are held bi-monthly at the Welcome Bay Community Centre, Tauranga. Or private groups by arrangement. ACC-REGISTERED RONGOĀ MĀORI SERVICE:

🪵Mahi Rākau - Self-Help / Healing🦋

Every year I'm invited to facilitate a Mahi Rākau wānanga with the Massage Students at Toi Ohomai, Tauranga.

They get to experience how to release stress, tension, tightness & other "stuff" from their own bodies through the feet. And learn the 'teachings' along the way to gain deeper understanding, awareness & connection to themselves.

As Bodyworkers, it's important that we check in with ourselves regularly to make sure our own wellbeing is on point. Apply what is needed to correct any imbalances.

We are more effective at helping others in need when our energy is high, clear & clean.

All the best for the rest of the year team & a big mihi to their kaiako Carolynn Margan 🙌🏾

💙 Full "Blue" Moon Mahi Rākau 😊

As I drove down to Kāpehu Whetū (Star Compass) at Sulphur Point, Tauranga, to set up, the rain gently fell on the car. It felt more like a blessing than a threat. In that moment, I knew all would be well for the gathering.

As the evening unfolded, the skies began to clear, the wind settled, and the temperature remained mild. We were gently held by the Atua of the elements throughout the entire gathering.

Those who arrived were invited to write their final reflections on paper, ready to be released later in the evening.

The Mahi Rākau was kept simple, slow, and deep. A Blue Moon carries a powerful and unique energetic frequency, encouraging a deeper, more inward review of life's direction. It helps reveal what is ready to stay and what needs to be released. As I often say, "Keep the koha, dump the rubbish."

The energy remained gentle and profound as everyone came forward to the water's edge to tear and release their written thoughts, before laying their rākau beside the kōhatu. The collective support shown during this part of the evening was truly beautiful.

The energy stayed tau during kai and kōrero as we closed out an incredible Full Moon night together.

Thank you to everyone who attended and brought your energy to our gathering. The evening was deep, calm, gentle, and yet incredibly powerful. If you feel called to, please share a little about your experience in the comments.

Continue to lead with compassion as you move through your release process over the next few days.

A massive thank you to my team for the evening — Hone, Andrea, and Christina — and to those who stayed behind to help pack up.
Also, a special mihi to Stewart for our opening & closing karakia. 🙌🏾

Money raised from this gathering goes towards Romiromi / Mirimiri sessions for our unsung hero's in our community. I see you! I will be tapping you on the shoulder.
And congratulations to our 2 winners who received a voucher tonight.

As I arrived home, the rain once again began to gently fall on the car. The window of stillness was closing as the wind picked up, cleansing and clearing all that had been moved. It felt like a beautiful blessing to complete the night. Gratitude washed over me as I reflected on how deeply we had been embraced and held throughout our gathering.

Enjoy the rest of your long weekend.

Until next time...

Aroha mai, aroha atu

Uncertainty to the brain is FEAR.
Uncertainty to the soul is pure possibilities.

Don't be pushed around by the fears in your mind, be led by the truth in your heart.

If fear is the disease, then courage is the medicine...to be taken daily.

Ground the roots of your being deep into Papatūānuku. Then there is no reason to fear the winds of life!

Prepare to release unnecessary fears, old thought patterns, other people's belief systems & imprinting that don't align with yours during the Full Moon tomorrow night.

Lead with compassion & honour yourself during this process.
