Kohlrabi (often called the "German turnip") is an antioxidant-rich cruciferous vegetable. Packed with potassium, vitamin C and phytochemicals like glucosinolates, it helps fight oxidative stress and may lower the risk of chronic conditions, including heart disease and some cancers. It may also reduce inflammation and boost immune function. Its high fibre content supports gut function. The green leaves are high in vitamin K, which supports healthy bones.

Kohlrabi tastes somewhat like a mix between broccoli and cucumber. It’s crispier and lighter in texture than turnips. It can be boiled, sauteed, roasted, pureed, added to soups, pickled or used raw in salads or slaw. Both the bulb and stems can be eaten, and, like cabbage, it comes in both purple and green varieties.

Traditionally, it has been used medicinally for inflammation, improved digestion, boosting of immune function, inflammation, disease prevention, cancer, gut health, fueling beneficial bacteria, constipation, heart health, fluid balancing, healthy blood pressure, calming metabolism, reducing body heat, regulating blood sugar, ulcerative colitis, Crohn’s disease, diabetes, gout, haemorrhoids, reducing bad cholesterol, liver disease, menstrual symptoms, sciatica, scurvy, obesity, wound healing, hair loss, oestrogen balancing, toxin elimination, fluid circulation, and much more.

Kohlrabi contains goitrogens, which may impact thyroid function if eaten raw in massive quantities.

So try this one, as another way to eat yourself well.

It’s not meant to be complicated to be well, nor is it meant to be expensive.

Do you want your fur baby to have the best possible life????

Is your pet stressed, or suffering from arthritic pain, or recovering from an injury?

Our pets need topical Magnesium just as much as we do. Just like us, more than 300 functions of their body’s simply CANNOT work properly without it either.

Like us, without it, our fur babies will degenerate faster and develop arthritic symptoms and stress symptoms, because vitamin D, our regenerator, remains dormant in the body and cannot work until it is activated by magnesium.

Degeneration is almost always caused by magnesium deficiency. Arthritis is almost always caused by degeneration.

There is no longer enough magnesium in the soil to give us, or any other animal, enough in our food. So, we must supplement or take a dip in the ocean daily to get enough.

Remember how invigorated you felt when you last came out of the sea after a swim? Did you see how invigorated your dog was? That’s the magnesium effect, that quickly, through the skin, that you and your dog can feel the difference before you even leave the beach.

The Herbalist’s Cat & Dog Magnesium spray also contains Neem and Cedarwood oils to naturally repel fleas and ticks, and to calm pets. Cedarwood oil is often used by dog trainers, to help train dogs. Just spray a little into your hand and gently rub into the soft parts of the backs of their ears.

So, give your pet the best quality of life that you can.

Get your dog, and you, down to the beach as often as possible, or supplement with topical magnesium spray on the days you can’t. Topical spray is best, if you don’t want you or your pet to suffer the negative stomach issues that are so common with oral magnesium supplements because of they way they are processed and made.

Our Cat & Dog magnesium spray is lifechanging for your cat too.

Kiwifruit are a nutrient-dense fruit with linked benefits to nutritional status, and digestive, immune and metabolic health, when consumed regularly. They are extremely rich in vitamin C and just one will provide up to 83% of recommended daily value. They also provide 34% of the total recommended daily value of vitamin K and 15% of copper. They are rich in carotenoids that aid heart health and eye health, amongst other things.

Most people know kiwifruit well for its digestive support and relief of chronic constipation. It lowers blood pressure, boosts immune function, reduces inflammation and enhances psychological wellbeing.

The unique enzyme it contains called actinidin breaks down proteins and improves gastric motility.

Traditionally it has been used medicinally for chronic constipation, bloating, managing of sodium levels, hypertension, cardiovascular health, immune boosting, lowering of bad cholesterol, colds, fatigue, mood improvement, increasing vitality, oxidative stress, protection from DNA damage, improving lung function, asthma, protein digestion, rheumatism, osteoporosis, eye sight and much more.

Yet another awesome and yummy way to eat yourself well.

Varicose veins???? Thread veins????

Varicose veins are caused by blood seeping through tiny perforations in thinned and weakened vein walls. Obviously, then, the vein walls must be repaired, thickened and strengthened to reverse the problem. This is usually a “DE-generative” condition. The body “NEVER” loses its ability to “RE-generate” while we still live. It just needs the right “tools” to do it.

Aescin, a complex group of organic chemicals in Horse Chestnut, repairs holes in leaking capillaries, prevents the release of enzymes that break down collagen and open holes in capillary walls, and prevents other forms of vein damage.

Butcher’s Broom is thought to prevent blood pooling in the veins where the vein walls are thinnest and weakest, reducing the lumpy appearance of varicose veins and relieving pressure on the vein walls. Coupled with Calendula, Butcher’s Broom may condition, strengthen, and thicken the vein walls, restoring their integrity.

Frankincense oil helps to alleviate inflammation, swelling, and localized pain by boosting blood circulation and calming the surrounding tissues. It unclogs veins and soothes sore, heavy legs. Orange and H**p oils are also well-regarded deep healers. And all of this is in a base of the most important healing mineral for life (responsible for the speed at which more than 300 body functions age and degenerate), magnesium. Magnesium absorption through the skin is believed to be as much as 95% compared with less than 50% orally and is essential for good vein health and circulation to the extremities. Topical magnesium is the best support for cramp and restless leg too, and also for sleep and stress.

Our Varicose Vein Support spray contains all of the above. A 100ml bottle should last 3 months; long enough to start seeing and feeling the difference.

Fenugreek (Trigonella foenum-graecum) is a versatile herb in the legume family, widely used as both a culinary spice and a traditional medicine. Native to the Mediterranean and western Asia, it produces small, golden-brown seeds and clover-like green leaves. This herb can be grown in New Zealand. Fenugreek doesn’t like root disturbance, so sow seeds directly once frosts have passed.

The hard and angular seeds have a slightly bitter taste that becomes nutty and sweet when roasted. They are famous for their smell, which resembles maple syrup.

In some countries, the fresh or dried leaves are used like spinach or as a bitter herb to flavour curries, flatbreads, and stews.

The seeds are a staple ingredient in many curry powders.

Fenugreek is primarily known for lowering blood sugar levels in people with diabetes and stimulating insulin, boosting breast milk production in nursing mothers by stimulating mammary glands to increase milk supply, and relieving menstrual cramps.

Traditionally Fenugreek has been used medicinally for diabetes type 1 and 2, lactation support, painful menstrual cramp relief, constipation, to soothe upset stomachs, heartburn, digestive aid, lowering of cholesterol and triglycerides, skin swelling, eczema, minor skin irritations and wounds, hormone regulation, testosterone boosting, sexual stamina, improved libido, improved hair growth, weight loss, dandruff, aluminium toxicity, acne, body deodorant, memory loss, immune function, polycystic o***y syndrome, and much more.

Wow!!! Curries are packed with highly beneficial spices and herbs. We should eat more of them to eat ourselves well.

It’s not meant to be complicated to be well. Nor is it meant to be expensive.

Essential oils contain organic chemicals that are borne by air, and which enter the body via the nostrils. Each oil contains different constituents that are well proven to be beneficial.

Our supportive blends are…………..

Rosemary & Lemon for mental clarity. Rosemary contains a rare chemical researchers say is known to pass the brain barrier by air and enhance brain function and memory by 20% or more. Lemon contains a little of the same chemical. Awesome support for those studying too.

Clary Sage, Orange & Rose are believed to be naturally anti-depressant and calming while boosting confidence and courage. Clary Sage may support hormonal stress.

Peppermint, Eucalyptus & Frankincense are energy boosting. Peppermint contains oxygen and boosts it in the body. Eucalyptus and Frankincense increase oxygen saturation into the cells.

Headache Support Blend of Ginger, Frankincense, Peppermint, Lavender, Lemon and Rosemary all work in their own ways to support all headache types, including migraines, and nausea.

Eucalyptus & Lemon are gentle support for allergies, sinus issues, congestion and breathing. Together they open and unblock the airways, and relieve swelling in the mucous membranes.

Jasmine, Lavender & Orange are perfect for calming baby and promoting sleep. Lavender slows the brain down for sleep, and orange is naturally calming, but also uplifting at the same time so they wake more refreshed. Jasmine is mind-calming. Try a drop in the bath before bed.

Lavender & Orange are amazing for sleeping. Lavender slows brain function for sleep, which can lead to grogginess when you wake. Orange is calming, naturally anti-depressant, and you’ll wake feeling more refreshed.

Frankincense, Orange & Sandalwood – Mind calming while boosting confidence and courage. Sandalwood may boost the production of Serotonin, the anti-stress hormone.

Cedarwood & Lavender is calming for stressed cats and dogs. It’s perfect when travelling, or for pets that are stressed by visitors. Both oils naturally repel fleas and ticks.

Check out our personal diffusers. We have one for your car that’s perfect with Rosemary & Lemon Oil to sharpen the mind on your way to work or school. We even have one to clip to your fur baby’s collar.

Barley grass is nutrient-dense and packed with vitamins, antioxidants, and dietary fibre.

The leaves added to a smoothie make an excellent nutrient tonic. The seeds are one of the only grains that can be eaten raw, after soaking for several days, exposed to sunlight.

Barley is said to be one of the first cereals ever cultivated by man. The earliest evidence goes right back to 8500BC.

It is blood cooling and soothing to internal organs and is highly favoured for this reason in hotter Arabic countries, both for people and their prized horses.

Barley contains gluten, so, may not be ideal for the gluten intolerant. It may regulate blood sugars by slowing the absorption of carbohydrates.

It contains tryptophan, which can enhance sleep quality.

Traditionally Barley has been used medicinally for heart health, blood pressure regulation, relaxation of blood vessels, cholesterol reduction, prevention of post meal sugar spikes, feeding of healthy gut bacteria, soothing the gastrointestinal tract, clearing of intracellular toxins, promotion of digestion, protection from cell damage, sleep, depression, inflammation, increasing bone density, reducing osteoporosis, convalescence, kidney function, urinary function, weight loss, immune regulation and much more.

Another healthy addition to the diet.

It’s not meant to be complicated to be well, nor is it meant to be expensive.

Sports injuries??? Sore muscles??? Pain???

Have you had enough of Anti-flams that either don’t work, or hurt your gut?

Check out our Deep Eeze Support Balm.

It’s thought that athletes can lose up to 20% of magnesium during a single session. And more than 300 functions of the body cannot work effectively without it. It activates vitamin D, which is needed for muscle recovery and regeneration. It improves circulation, stamina, and bone density and strength. It optimises performance and recovery and is key for maintaining healthy muscle and nerve function. It is an integral factor in cellular energy production pathways and is naturally anti-inflammatory and pain receptor blocking.

Arnica is believed to be anti-inflammatory and may have a similar action to ibuprofen.

Zingiberene, a main constituent in ginger oil, may reduce inflammation and provide support for muscle aches, arthritis, migraines and headaches.

Peppermint contains menthol, which has a cooling effect on sore, achy muscles. It also has analgesic, antispasmodic, and anti-inflammatory properties. Peppermint contains an oxygen molecule, so, improves oxygen saturation into the cells, for improved energy and stamina. It’s anti-spasmodic and cooling and may also support relief of pain associated with fibromyalgia and myofascial pain syndrome.

Wintergreen oil contains the natural painkilling substance, methyl salicylate. One teaspoon of wintergreen oil contains as much methyl salicylate as about 20 aspirin. It quickly cools and eases aches, swelling, strains and sports injuries. It aids circulation and recovery, and can provide quick temporary relief for back, joint and muscle discomfort including sciatica, and arthritic or rheumatic conditions. It activates oxygenation of ligaments, bones and muscles, and relieves tension.

Researchers found that when diluted, lavender essential oil applied topically, may provide pain relief comparable to that of the pharmaceutical medication tramadol.

Researchers believe that frankincense may prevent the release of leukotrienes, which are compounds that can cause inflammation.

Rosemary contains key chemical compounds that act as an analgesic to inflammation and pain. It has traditionally been used for musculoskeletal pain support.

Clove leaf oil may contain more active Eugenol than the buds. Eugenol inhibits N-methyl-d-aspartate (NMDA) receptors which are involved in pain sensitivity. It produces a mild numbing effect.

Research suggests that lemon eucalyptus oil may support easing of joint pain and reduction of swelling. It relieves joint and/or muscle trauma such as tendonitis, elongation, contracture, lumbago, torticollis etc, and nerve inflammation such as neuralgia, neuritis, sciatica etc. It is thought to activate Wintergreen when used in conjunction with it.

H**p oil Contains cannabinoids that may alter pain receptors, to reduce pain.

Almond oil has a very relaxing effect on the blood vessels.

Feverfew's main active constituent, parthenolide blocks the release of inflammatory chemicals.

Devil's claw contains the plant compounds, iridoid glycosides, which have been shown to suppress inflammation. It has been used historically for millennia for pain support.

Researchers found that topical menthol can act as a counterirritant with cooling effects, which desensitizes the sensory nerve cells, nociceptors.

Our Deep Eeze Balm contains all of the above, and it works quickly.

A small shipping update.

Just a heads up that from the 1st of June (a week today), we do need to make a small change to our shipping prices due to ongoing cost increases.

– Free shipping will move from orders over $100 to orders over $120
– Flat rate shipping will change from $8 to $10

We’ve made the decision not to increase the prices of our products themselves because we still stand by what we’ve always said…

It’s not meant to be complicated to be well, nor is it meant to be expensive.

Thank you, as always, for supporting our small NZ business.

20/05/2026

Kelp is a nutrient-dense seaweed that provides abundant iodine for balancing of thyroid hormones that regulate metabolism and energy levels, calcium, magnesium, iron, folate, pantothenic acid, vitamin K1 and vitamin A.

It can be used in tablet form or as “Kelp Salt” sprinkled like salt on food.

Kelp is still widely used to treat iodine deficiency and support thyroid function, metabolism, and energy regulation. It contains fucoxanthin, a compound shown to aid in fat reduction and improve metabolic health. It’s also rich in alginate, a natural fibre that reduces fat absorption and helps control blood sugar levels.

Kelp also provides anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and bone-strengthening benefits.

Traditionally, kelp has been used medicinally for thyroid function regulation and health, metabolism regulation, weight loss, boosting energy levels, diabetes, bone density improvement, dental health, anaemia, cancer prevention, especially colon and breast cancers, nutritional support, blood pressure regulation, lowering of high cholesterol, cardiovascular support, brain health, muscle health, cellular repair and much more.

Another awesome herb to add to any “eat yourself well” plan.

It’s not meant to be complicated to be well, nor is it meant to be expensive.
