A client of mine asked me recently, "as a ConTact C.A.R.E practitioner, what do you look for?"
Well, ConTact Care takes many, many things into account. Firstly, we observe - as every single session is unique to the individual being treated. We are trained to observe stillness - what is not moving, in a sea of movement. Thats where we start - thats what makes us different.
There is no "one size fits all." We could have a client presenting the exact same symptoms as the next, but the cause and treatment being completely different.
Pain is a symptom - we want to know whats not working, and why there is pain or compensation happening in the body. What is numb and dumb and switched off?
The body (whether Human or Equine) is interconnected, so whilst we work with Bone and Structure, we observe the interconnectedness of the body as one whole being - everything attaches to bone. Soft tissue, fascia, even organs. We observe the things that arent right - and take muscular function, meridians, even teeth into account. Behaviours - things that are in excess to build the whole picture.
What is trying to be structure, when it should be function? What is hard when it should be soft? What is NOT moving. Are the organs doing what they are meant to be doing, or are they working excessively supporting something that isn't? Is there temperature where there shouldnt, or what is cold when it should be warm? Are just a snippet of our observations.
Ive attached some photos from my 27 year old horse who I treated in the weekend, as he started showing some signs of stiffness, tripping and weird angles in the hind. The photos describe the small details we observe - as well as the big stuff (i.e movement & pain.)
