Wellness Wednesday: Pelvic Floor Friendly Squat

Squats are amazing for strength, but your pelvic floor needs to move with you!

✔ Feet hip width apart

✔ Inhale as your lower, letting your pelvic floor relax

✔ Exhale as you lift, engaging through your pelvic floor

Avoid holding your breath or bearing down. Your pelvic floor should lift (activate) and lower (relax).

✨ Wellness Wednesday: How to activate your pelvic floor muscles the right way ✨

Activating your pelvic floor can feel tricky at first, especially if this area hasn’t had much attention before. The key is to keep it gentle, controlled, and breath‑led.

A few quick and easy tips to help:
💧 Try to stop the flow of urine from your front passage.
🌬️ Try to stop gas exiting your back passage.
🌫️ Do not hold your breath.
⚖️ Try not to use your tummy, bottom, or thigh muscles.

Small cues can make a big difference when it comes to pelvic floor activation.

This June, we’re putting a strong focus on pelvic health - an area that deserves more understanding and practical guidance.

Pelvic health is all about how well the muscles, joints, and tissues in your pelvis work together to support your bladder, bowel, sexual function, and core.

These muscles aren’t just about strength, they need coordination, balance, and the ability to relax. Changes during pregnancy, birth, exercise, menopause, or injury can all affect how your pelvic floor functions.

If you’re noticing symptoms or you’re unsure what’s normal, our pelvic health physios are here to give you clarity and a personalised plan.
