As some of you may already know or have heard… WE ARE MOVING! 🥹✨

After four beautiful years at our tari kāinga here at Eruera Street, we’re so excited to be closing one chapter and stepping into the next for Indigenous Light Tāpui 💜

Today, Thursday 10th September will be our last operating day in our current space, a space we have loved, grown in, laughed in, cried in, healed in and shared so many special moments with you all over the past four years 🥹

From Monday 14th – Friday 18th September, we’ll be CLOSED while we pack up, shift and settle into our new space 📦

And of course… we want to share this next chapter with YOU! 🫶🏽

We’re planning our next Open Community Day at our new tari kāinga, where we’ll be able to share our new space, welcome you all in, show you around and celebrate this next chapter together 🏡💜

Keep an eye on our socials for more details!

We are SO excited for what’s ahead for Indigenous Light Tāpui and feel incredibly grateful to have you all walking alongside us on this haerenga.

Here’s to the next chapter 🥹✨
He wā hou. He ara hou. He wāhi hou.
Still us. Just a new home. 💜

Anei e te whānau
A safe space to just be and to breathe

My beautiful friend and wahine toa Kahira Rata Olley alongside her team of angels will hold space for in the little and big moments ♥️♥️♥️

SAFE SPACE WEDNESDAY
WE ARE OPEN TODAY

Yesterday was a day of great sadness, concern and heartbreak for our community. Within hours, posts began appearing across our local social media pages, and some of what was shared was incredibly difficult and heartbreaking to read.

Today, we open our doors with love, compassion and aroha for our community.

Safe Space Wednesday is a place where you can simply be.

You are welcome to:
Browse our Boutique of Aroha and take what you need, all clothing is free.

Sit quietly and read.

Have a cuppa and kōrero with Kahira.

Bring your guitar and serenade us.

Talk, laugh, cry, or simply spend some time in a safe and peaceful space.
Or just come as you are and be surrounded by people who care.

There is no pressure and no judgement. You don't have to explain yourself. You don't have to have the right words. You can simply walk through our doors.

Please also remember that Kahira Rata Olley continues to offer Cuppa & Kōrero for whānau who are experiencing, or have experienced, domestic violence and/or sexual abuse, there is nothing you will share that she hasn't heard before or been through herself! Sadly your story is not unique BUT YOU ARE🤍🩷 You can simply turn up during our open hours, or send us a DM to arrange a time and day that feels right for you.

We also want to extend this invitation to those who recognise that they are causing harm and genuinely want support to change. There is help available. Asking for help, taking responsibility and choosing to do things differently can be the beginning of change. You too are welcome to come and kōrero, seek support and take a step towards breaking the cycle of harm.

To everyone who has been impacted by yesterday's events in our beautiful little town, our thoughts, our aroha and our hearts are with you.

Please look after yourselves and one another. Check in on your whānau, your friends, your neighbours and those who may be quietly struggling.

Our doors are open. Our hearts are open. You are welcome here.

I love this kōrero and fully can relate... Amy sister and I have distinct memories - especially being raised with our dad and him being on the pae, and our mum in the kitchen. Seriously she made the best rewena bread that I still don't know how to make... and funny when we think of tangihanga and death as a child we never saw it as being a mamae - it was cousins new and old - it was setting the tables, actually back then it was knowing the pecking order hahaaha what jobs you would naturally level up to without knowing you were leveling up to lol

And standing by the fire cause we didn't have big ovens or stove tops and the hangi pit - that was where my love of ahi sits

So many things that were naturally just who we were and what we do - and fear of our tūpāpaku (even when we didn't know who they were - it was always new whānau to meet) or death didn't exist for that matter. But I always loved the pūrākau on the last night - lying on our beds each whānau would get up and kōrero and share stories and always with laughter - like seriously why would we be afraid? Death was as normal as life and for that I am grateful to my dad, my nannies and my pakeha mum and all our whānau whanui who let it be normal just like Wairua was for us too.

I do think it is different now - but for so many reasons and not necessarily bad but different ❤ but that's another kōrero for another day
