From living in my garage for 2 months to a month in a unit and now a month in a tiny home until we move into our house. Remediating one house to sell, purchasing another, mould illness and constantly flared endo as a result, Rocco having CCL surgery and then reacting to the meds, almost passing away, my daily habits remain the same. They’re what give me a healthy, strong, resilient and calm mind and body. Plus, managing my endo well and ensuring perimenopause is the exciting phase it is, not horrible. 🫐🍓🥑🍠🍞🧘‍♀️🏋️‍♂️🚶‍♀️‍➡️🦮🐾🌿☀️

Some random snippets of the past few weeks in the life of a woman who has spent the past 25+ years PERSONALLY consulting, helping, supporting and calculating my clients’ nutritional needs. Not a bot. Not AI. Not someone I’m not even paying minimum wage to pose as me answering my emails, new client enquiries etc. Nope. Me personally. 💁‍♀️

I recently saw a professional in my industry make a post thanking everyone who’s still writing their own posts, captions, articles, meal plans and it made me sad to think what this world has come to! 😢

In an industry that should be based around helping people, the amount of AI generated rubbish and pushing of weight loss products (that don’t work by the way) I’ve seen posted online is out of control! I cringe when I read them as they often don’t even make sense to someone who’s educated in nutrition and are such a source of misinformation. Often posted by those who aren’t educated in nutrition and are selling generic Al generated meal plans. Sadly, these kinds of posts target those who are vulnerable - those wanting to lose weight yesterday and click the link to buy the product/plan out of desperation.

I chose to study and work in nutrition because I wanted to help people feel their best and I was fascinated with how the human body works. When it comes to health, I don’t know about you but I’d want to make sure I was getting advice from one of the best, not some computer generated rubbish that doesn’t know the depths of biochemistry, hormones and the complex machine that is the amazing human body! 🥰

Rotorua locals, how lucky are you having the Redwoods – Whakarewarewa Forest on your doorstep, so many cool little walks in there! 😍 I went for a little wander today and did the Tokorangi Pa Loop track (and half the Quarry Loop by accident - so easy to get lost in there!🫣😂) Those Redwood trees planted in 1901 are HUGE, such a beautiful spot! ❤️

Your body’s natural production of glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) in the morning helps your hormones all day.

Here’s how:

GLP-1 is a hormone your small intestine makes after you eat. It helps your body manage blood sugar levels, appetite, and digestion – your breakfast decides how much of it you make.

When you eat protein, amino acids like leucine, glutamine, and arginine hit the L cells lining your gut and switch on GLP-1 almost immediately. The catch is that an enzyme called DPP 4 which breaks it down within a couple of minutes, so the goal was never one big spike. It’s a steady, repeated signal your body keeps making every time it sees the right food.

Then there’s a mechanism called the second meal effect. Protein and fibre don’t only help you at breakfast. They change how your body manages blood sugar at lunch too, because that early GLP-1 response primes your insulin and slows how quickly your stomach empties later on. Fibre feeds gut bacteria which tells your gut to release even more GLP-1.

GLP-1 also lowers glucagon, the hormone that tells your liver to release more sugar into your blood. So one strong breakfast is steadying glucose, calming cravings, and keeping your energy consistent into the afternoon all at the same time.

Start your day with a balanced breakfast (adequate protein, fibre and fats, then carbs depending on your activity level, body composition and metabolic health) as a way of life, not just for a few days, weeks or months. Your body already knows what to do naturally if given the right instructions (food).
