It is with deep sadness that we acknowledge the passing of our kaumātua and long-serving Trustee, Anaru Te Amo.

For 14 years, Anaru served Te Aratu Trust with dedication, wisdom and quiet strength. He was not a man who needed many words. His thoughtful manner, careful attention to detail, and willingness to ask the questions that mattered made a lasting contribution to the growth and progress of Te Aratu.

At the heart of Anaru’s contribution was his genuine care for people. He remained focused on ensuring that the safety, wellbeing and interests of those Te Aratu was established to serve were never lost sight of.

Anaru gave generously of his time, his knowledge and himself. We are deeply grateful for his years of service, his guidance as a kaumātua, and the contribution he made to the kaupapa and whānau of Te Aratu Trust.

E Anaru, tēnei te mihi ki a koe mō tō manaaki, mō tō tautoko, mō tō ū ki te kaupapa.
Thank you for walking alongside us and for all that you gave.

To Anaru’s whānau, the whānau of Te Aratu Trust extend our deepest aroha and condolences at this very sad time.

Mā te Atua koutou e manaaki, e tiaki i tēnei wā pōuri.
Haere, haere, haere atu rā.

What a beautiful atmosphere it was at the trust this afternoon with our music tutor Al jamming, chatting, and enjoying time with one of our Ākonga who loves music.
So lovely that they decided to have the session outdoors on this gorgeous day 🌞

Whaea Nicky took some interested Ākonga to the Ruth Street Reserve to help support the new initiative led by one of our students Dad's - Mr.H.

He is establishing a māara kai there.

Their mission of the
Feeding our Future Trust exists to grow healthy, connected & self-sustaining communities through māara kai, education & the sharing of knowledge.

To create & support maāra kai in community spaces, growing fresh vegetables and kai for our whānau, friends and wider community.

With the goal to empower the next generation with the skills and confidence to grow and prepare their own food, creating a stronger and more sustainable food future for their whānau.

This is done through sharing practical knowledge and hands-on experience in growing, nurturing and caring for kai.

We want to acknowledge and thank Mr.H for all of his awesome teachings at the māara kai.
We learnt so much and enjoyed the tranquility of the area.
We are looking forward to a great ongoing relationship with the community.

If you would like to learn more, or get involved, please check out their page Te Kahui Manaakitanga O Ruth Street.

They are having a
Meet & greet the maara kai team day on
Saturday 3rd October
from 10AM at the
Ruth Street Reserve, Fordlands.
- Meet the team
- Learn about maara kai
- Get involved
- All welcome
- Free sausage sizzle

𝐓𝐞 𝐀𝐫𝐚 𝐓𝐚̄𝐧𝐞 - 𝟐𝟑 𝐒𝐞𝐩 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔
Butcher’s Pool

Mean morning out at Butcher’s Pool today. Time to slow down, share some good kōrero and reconnect through the different parts of Te Whare Tapa Whā.

We shared pūrākau, kōrero about the healing properties of the wai, and stopped to listen to the tūī doing their own kōrero around us.

Pretty special too, one of our tāne hadn’t been back here for 15 years, and for another it had been over 30 years.

Acknowledging Ngāti Tahu–Ngāti Whaoa and the hapū of this rohe for allowing us to spend time on their whenua and in their wai.

Kia tau te ora.

𝐓𝐞 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐓𝐚𝐩𝐚 𝐖𝐡𝐚̄ is a Māori model developed by Sir Mason Durie in 1984 describing health and wellbeing as a wharenui with four walls (pou) - taha wairua (spiritual), taha hinengaro (mental & emotional), taha tinana (physical), and taha whānau (family & social). Our connection with the whenua (land) forms the foundation.
