🌱 One Year of Yapi Services!

Today marks one year since we took one of the biggest steps of our working lives and began the journey of Yapi Services.

Before we celebrate the growth, achievements or what comes next, we want to recognise the people who are the reason Yapi exists in the first place: our clients, families, community, stakeholders, supporters and team.

You are Yapi’s why.

What began as an idea between three brothers and a best mate has grown into an organisation of 14 incredible people across mentoring, support work, cleaning and gardening services, united by a shared purpose.

Yapi was never created simply to build a business. It was created to bring together our professional experience, culture, connection and lived experiences to genuinely support people and communities.

Our purpose is to walk alongside people, empower them to reach their potential, strengthen cultural connection, support self-determination and help individuals move towards healthier, more independent and fulfilling lives.

Over the past 12 months, we’ve experienced challenges, setbacks, lessons and achievements. But the successful outcomes, growing confidence, stronger connections and progress we see in the people we support remind us why we keep going.

To our clients and families, thank you for trusting us to walk alongside you. To our team, thank you for your commitment, compassion and belief in what we are building. To our Elders, community, stakeholders and supporters, thank you for sharing your knowledge, opening doors and being part of our journey.

As we look towards 2027, we remain focused on building a strong, sustainable and purpose-driven organisation that creates opportunities, strengthens relationships and makes a meaningful difference in people’s lives.

Because this has never just been about building a business. It’s about people, purpose and creating positive change, one life at a time.

We’re proud to welcome Leighem to the Yapi Services team! 🤝🏽

Leighem is a proud Ngarrindjeri, Kaurna, Boandik and Dutch man, a devoted father, and someone who brings a wealth of life experience, strong values and a genuine passion for supporting others.

With a diverse background across hospitality, tourism, health and landscaping, Leighem brings a strong work ethic and a people-first approach to his work. His previous experience with the Aboriginal Sobriety Group saw him support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people with compassion, understanding and respect.

Leighem is passionate about mentoring and recognises the importance of positive role models in helping people build confidence, resilience and the skills to achieve their goals. He is committed to walking alongside individuals, encouraging growth and creating opportunities for positive change.

Outside of work, Leighem enjoys camping, fishing, playing football and spending quality time with his family. As a proud father, he values the importance of family, culture and community, and is passionate about passing these values on to the next generation.

At Yapi Services, we believe that connection, culture and strong relationships can create meaningful change. Leighem’s values and passion for supporting others align strongly with our commitment to empowering individuals and walking alongside them on their journey.

🌱 Yapi Services – Creating Employment Through Community

Yapi Services is excited to be exploring an opportunity to employ two young people and support them through hands-on training and development in horticulture and garden maintenance.

Both young people are eager, motivated and ready to learn, and we’re keen to create a pathway where they can build practical skills, confidence, work experience and meaningful employment.

As part of this initiative, we’re reaching out to our Yapi community to see whether there is a need for ongoing yard and garden maintenance at homes.

If you or someone you know would benefit from regular yard maintenance, whether it’s mowing, weeding, general gardening, tidying or keeping outdoor spaces maintained, we’d love to hear from you.

This is more than just yard maintenance. It’s about creating opportunity, building skills and supporting two young people into employment while giving back to our community.

They’re eager. We’re eager. Now we’re looking for our community to help us make it happen. 🌿

Long Weekend with Yapi Services 🌿

While many of us enjoyed the long weekend, our Yapi Services team were out supporting our clients to stay connected, active and working towards their individual goals.

Across the weekend, our team supported clients with social engagement, community outings, activities and sports, daily living tasks, building independence and much more.

Every person we support has their own story, goals and aspirations, and our role is to walk alongside them, providing the right support, encouragement and opportunities to help them achieve those goals.

A proud opportunity for Yapi Services to attend the 6th Australasian Youth Justice Conference at the National W**e Centre of Australia in Adelaide on Kaurna Country.

Across three days, we gained valuable insight, knowledge and lived experience from passionate people working across youth justice in Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom.

Most importantly, we had the opportunity to connect and yarn with young people who shared their journeys, experiences and stories of turning their lives around. Hearing their voices and experiences was a powerful reminder of why we do what we do.

A key message throughout the conference was the importance of walking alongside our young people, not working against them, understanding the person behind the behaviour, listening to lived experience and addressing the circumstances that can lead young people into the justice system.

This strongly aligns with Yapi Services’ commitment to early intervention, cultural connection, empowerment and creating pathways to positive futures.

Our young people are not the problem, they are part of the solution, and their voices must be at the centre of change.

Thank you to the organisers, speakers, young people and everyone who contributed to three powerful days of learning, connection and meaningful conversation.

We leave inspired and even more committed to doing things differently.

Today, Yapi Services attended the Aboriginal Health & Wellbeing Day in Port Augusta.

It’s been a great opportunity to connect with community and collaborate with the many health services, organisations and supports available for Aboriginal people across Port Augusta and surrounding communities, reaching from Adelaide through to Ceduna.

Hosted by Kokatha Aboriginal Corporation, the day is about creating a space for mob to have a yarn, ask questions, learn what support is available and build meaningful connections with services that can support individuals and families.

For Yapi Services, days like today are about connection, collaboration and making sure mob know what support is out there.

One life at a time.

At Yapi Services, our purpose is simple, to walk alongside young people and all individuals, build trust, strengthen identity and connection, and support them to see a positive future for themselves.

Hearing about the impact our mentor is making with young fullas inside the youth detention centre is a powerful reminder of why this work matters.

Sometimes change starts with simply having someone show up, listen without judgement, build trust and remind a young person that their story does not have to be defined by their current circumstances.

We’re proud of our mentor for the consistency, respect and genuine care they bring to this work.
