Time for a reintroduction!
Ko Shannon Rose tōku ingoa, tēnei tāku irāmutu, tāku ngākau a Amira i te pikitia, i mua i tō māua marae, a Te Awhe o Te Rangi, i Maketū.
Ko wai au? I te taha o tōku koroua, he uri ahau o Ngā Pūmanawa e Waru o Te Arawa, nō Ngāti Whakahemo, Ngāti Mākino, Tūhourangi, Tapuika, Ngāti Pikiao, Ngāti Whakaue hoki.
I am the founder, creator, kaitiaki of HineHau. I believe that we are just kaitiaki of our creations, just as we can’t own the whenua, HineHau is her own entity, I am just the steward.
I came to te hā in 2016 in what I would describe as a supernatural experience, from the moment I lay down to experience the breath I KNEW this was what I was here to do.
At this point I didn’t know the whakapapa of the breath from an ao Māori perspective, but I was about to find out!
My journey led me back to my whakapapa as wāhine Māori, to discover all I had been seeking, had been seeking me.
When I begun sharing the breath in Aotearoa, it was not yet a global phenomenon, I was privileged to be among the early wave of facilitators seeding this work in Aotearoa.
It was hard yards at first driving awareness about this work, but this is also part of the role of being a pioneer, advocate and visionary for practices that are new to this world but old to the ancient ways.
I am picking up the threads my tīpuna left me, kia whakatōmuri te haere whakamua!
Eventually after 7 years of sharing and embodying this work, I decided to offer a practitioner’s training, driven by the many requests I received to do this.
This was when my work really deepened into being a Kauwaka (vessel) for something much bigger than me.
With a previous background and education in communications, marketing and business, I have been privileged with the skills to grow a kaupapa like HineHau, and with the support ā-wairua.
HineHau already has over 50 trained practitioners, but in truth we are only just getting started, building our community of practitioners is only the start of a much bigger plan to get breathwork into our homes and institutions of health and hauora in Aotearoa.
I truly believe that this is the rongoā our country needs to move beyond pain and trauma and into unity, kotahitanga and true wealth in all ways.
E mihi ana ahau ki a koe for being here on this journey!
Tihei Mauri Ora, Shannon Rose
