It used to be estrogen that caused all the controversy in the world of hormone therapy.

But now?

It’s testosterone.

Despite the fact that doctors have been prescribing this hormone to women since the 1930s (yes, you read that right. It's been going on for 90 years) - most medical professionals still know little to nothing about this important hormone.

Before I started the Menodoctor clinic - I was one of them.

I was clueless.

I had to go looking myself for the education that medical school and GP training never gave me.

And I am so happy I did.

I’ve been prescribing testosterone therapy now for several years. So I’ve seen first hand the benefits it can bring women in perimenopause and postmenopause - over and above what other hormones, lifestyle changes or supplements ever do.

And it’s time for the stories I hear to be heard by everyone.

So I’ve launched a survey.

The Menodoctor Testosterone Survey is open to all NZ women who have ever used Androfeme cream and/or Testogel, either now or in the past.

Whether you had a good experience or a bad one - I want to hear from you.

Because women’s real-world experience matters.

Clinical trials never tell us the whole story.
Patients do.

You can access the survey here:

Thank you!

Make sure you are not accidentally being prescribed perimenopause!

Most estrogen patches (including all the patches available in NZ) need to be changed at least twice a week to be working properly.

If your script says once weekly - check with your doctor!

Bones matter! Check yours with a DEXA or bone density scan. Even if your lifestyle is good - and even if you are on HRT/MHT - you may still have low bone density or osteoporosis. The only way to know for sure, is to scan!

Thankyou to the wonderful Michelle from for working her magic on my face for something very special that happened at my clinic recently (which will eventually be revealed..!) Michelle - You are a genius with a make-up brush and I wish you lived in my house and could paint my face everyday 😂

If you get a high estrogen blood test result and you are on estrogen gel that you apply to your arm - and you feel fine! (No breast pain, no bloating, no heavy periods, no pelvic pains etc) then before you lower your dose - you should get another blood level done after applying the gel to your thighs instead :-)

Testosterone therapy can be genuinely life-changing for some women in perimenopause and post-menopause — I’ve seen it first-hand many times.

It can help improve libido and s*x drive - but women also often report it helps their energy, motivation and overall sense of wellbeing.

Yet testosterone therapy remains one of the most misunderstood areas within menopause care and continues to create controversy and confusion.

Here in New Zealand, women currently have access to two testosterone options:

• Androfeme — the only testosterone product designed specifically for women. It is licensed by Medsafe for use in women, but is not funded by PHARMAC. It costs around $150 - $200 every 3 months.

• Testogel — a testosterone gel designed for men, but prescribed off-licence in small doses to women both here in NZ and internationally. Testogel is fully funded by PHARMAC for men and women.

Male testosterone products like Testogel have been prescribed to women for many years around the world. Using such products is also supported by international guidelines, including those from the British Menopause Society.

Women often respond differently to different testosterone products – which is why choice is so important. Some do brilliantly on Androfeme. Others feel much better on Testogel.

PHARMAC is reviewing whether they should fund Androfeme. I recently found out that they are seeking feedback from women here in NZ who have used testosterone — now or in the past.

So they can make the right decision, PHARMAC need to hear a balanced and representative range of views from women in NZ who have used Androfeme, Testogel or both.

So if you have used any of these testosterone products, please share your feedback with PHARMAC via the website address below – And please do it soon! Because the feedback closes on 30th January!

Most health insurers aren’t doing much for menopause.
But nib New Zealand is different.

Not only did they partner with me to launch their meno care programme— giving every nib members free access to my expert menopause video guide via the nib app — they’ve also invited me to give several menopause talks and seminars to their corporate members across Aotearoa too.

But do you want to know the best part of all?

This whole partnership started because of a man who cares about menopause ❤️

Thank you Richard Linley from nib for reaching out to me and making all this magic happen.

I am so proud to work with nib and help women and workplaces understand menopause.

If you are an nib member and want free access to the meno care programme, you can access this via the mynib app here:
