This client in Perth contacted me in February with high AST and ALT, high cholesterol, low ferritin, insulin resistance and excess body fat.
AST and ALT are enzymes the liver cells release into the bloodstream and when they’re elevated, it usually indicates that liver cells are damaged or inflamed – these are not the only markers that can indicate liver issues.
The most common reason for elevated liver enzymes is MASLD (metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease, formally known as fatty liver disease). It’s closely connected to carrying excess body fat, high blood sugar, elevated triglycerides, and high blood pressure. Medications can also elevate liver enzymes – another reason why being on long term meds for health issues that are caused by poor diet and lifestyle (eg high cholesterol, high blood pressure, Type 2 Diabetes etc) has its risks – that, and meds aren’t fixing the root cause.
You can see this client has reduced her liver damage with changes to her nutrition over only a few months. We haven’t tested lipids (cholesterol) or blood sugar yet to compare but given her constant cravings, hunger, energy crashes, poor moods and food noise have all improved indicate her insulin resistance has likely gone. Her ferritin has improved dramatically and she’s 6.5kg down. 👏👏
As with all my clients who prevent and/or reverse disease with nutrition, I couldn’t be prouder of this client! 🎉👏🥰
