The number tells you WHAT happened. It doesn’t tell you HOW.
For this instance, a sprint time gives us an objective measure of performance.
But I’m also looking at how the athlete actually achieved that result.
How do they accelerate?
How do they organise their limbs?
What movement strategies are they using?
How does their injury history influence what we see?
The timing gates give us the number.
The coaching eye gives the context.
And for this athlete, the race is obviously much more than 30m.
But improving acceleration can raise the ceiling for everything that comes after it.
Testing is not just about chasing better numbers.
It is about understanding the athlete behind them.
