Wynyard Estate Saffron Wynyard Estate Saffron Est 2012. My name is Wendy and with my partner Graham we'd like to welcome you to Wynyard Estate Saffron in Central Otago, NZ. D.

We grow Premium Grade 1 Sargol Saffron, and test under the strict standards of ISO 3632v2 after each harvest since 2015 here in NZ. We are also verified for NP 3, (National Programme 3) under Ministry Primary Industries which is required for all Spice growers. Graham holds a Ph. in Plant Science and worked on organic rice production in the USA at the University of California, Davis (the no:1 ranked Agricultural University in the world). I am a chef by trade and trained in the Airforce to obtain my London & City Guilds 706-1 and 706- 2. Although I do not work in the catering arena any more, my love of Saffron and experimentation of this incredible spice is now my passion. We also introduced our Supplement - Hawk Eye Natural for supporting and maintaining your eye health. A huge thank you for yesterday. Such a wonderful day of lovely folk visiting the gardens in the area, supporting the Teviot Valley Prospects fund raising event.

Shout out to Barbara and her behind the scene team for organizing it all.

The sun was out, the birds, fish and later in the day frogs 🐸 also showed up.

Lovely as always to talk Saffron and Gardening! Thank you also for the pre bookings for your next tour, look forward to seeing you again.

A huge pat on the back for all of the amazing gardens who opened up yesterday 🌼🌹🌻🌹. It was a late finish, but so worth it 💜💜💜💜

He has turned our last 14 years of growing Saffron and becoming New Zealand's largest Saffron producer into a fabulous manual. Let's talk rainfall!
September is generally our wettest month, now the great thing about having 14 years of records, is looking back to see how we are faring 🤗

2023 - 42mls
2024 - 75.5 mls
2025 - 51.5 mls
2026 - 68 mls to date for the month.

So there is nothing for us in our area out of the norm. Plus, soil temperatures are tracking nicely.
