Disability Support Services (DSS) Consultation

From now until 31 July, disabled people, families, whānau and carers can have their say and help shape the next improvements to disability support services.

The community consultation will run from Monday 8 June to Friday 31 July.

The focus is on improving some key areas the community has said matter most. For example, flexibility in services, planning ahead for life changes, better information and advice, and respite for carers.
People can take part in a way that works for them:
• complete the online survey
• register for a workshop (online or in person – many date and time options available)
• provide written or recorded feedback.

They don’t need to do everything — just what matters to them.

Fun on the Farm Day at Wires Road was an absolute joy! 🐴🌾🐷

Our amazing day started bright and early with the Hāngi crew lighting the fire at dawn, and all the kai in the ground by 8am. 🔥🍲 The delicious smells set the tone for a beautiful day together.

Life Stylers and staff arrived ready for fun and connection:

🐎 Saddle & Soul – leading, riding, spending quiet time with the horses, and watching Truus’ awesome barrel race demonstration.

🎨 Artsider – painting a stunning mural for Saddle & Soul and creating mosaic art. Everyone got to watch the murals being hung on the cabin at Saddle & Soul.

🖼️ 🚤 OriginalWorx – building a boat from recycled materials and floating it down the ford.

🐐 On the farm – feeding the animals and enjoying the country life.

🚙 4WD rides – plenty of smiles and laughter along the way.

🔥 Toasting marshmallows around the open fire – sticky fingers and happy faces all round.

🌸 Lesley – helping everyone plant a pansy, paint their pot, nurture it, and watch it grow. First flower wins a special prize!

🏆 🕵️‍♀️ Sue – leading a scavenger hunt across the farm to find hidden animals, with a bag of goodies for everyone’s efforts.

🎶 The Jam Jar – music, notes, and karaoke for those brave enough to grab the mic! 🎤

The weather blessed us with a beautiful day ☀️ and so many wonderful people came together to make this event happen. The hāngi nourished and filled everyone’s puku, and the laughter and smiles said it all.

A special thank you to Thames South Primary School for the use of your hāngi kit 🧺🔥, St James Church for the use of tables and chairs 🪑, our hāngi crew Wep, Matt, Dennis and Nelson 👨‍🍳👩‍🍳, and our Maintenance Team Caleb and Trev 🛠️ for your tireless help and support.

Thank you also to our Community Spaces team for your amazing contribution 🤝, and to all our Volunteers who facilitated each of the activities 🙌.
