Another wonderful session with beautiful creative people yesterday 🙏🏽

✨✨✨
Crystal Point pendant making with micro macramĂŠ is an art of patience. With just a thread and a series of simple knots, intricate designs emerge slowly, one knot at a time.

Join our next session🌈

What a magical time we all shared at our final masterclass in Term 1 at Onehunga Community Centre on Saturday 18 April. We made 44 jars of Sassy Salsa with great people from diverse cultures who were eager to learn the art of preserving.

The Preserving the Past masterclasses delivered by Dee Petit and Gilly Stewart through Shiloh Creative Life Centre have demonstrated the continued importance and relevance of traditional home preserving skills within our community.

Teaching preserving is about passing on more than recipes. It is about restoring confidence, resilience, and connection — to our food, our communities, and our cultures. By learning these skills, people are not just saving money; they are reclaiming agency in how they feed themselves and those they love.

Preserving is a living art and craft. And when shared, it has the power to nourish both body and spirit, now and for generations to come. We created fun and relaxing spaces during this term where skills were shared, confidence was built, and 70 students were empowered to preserve food safely at home for their families.

A huge thank you to OCC, The Trust Community Foundation, Onehunga Adult Education, Maungakiekie-Tamaki Local Board and B***e Brothers for supporting this FREE programme.

We will be offering PTPM later in the year so follow/like us to stay in touch!

Saturday 11 March we had our 5th Preserving the Past Masterclass at Onehunga Community Centre with 15 students attending eagerly to learn how to make Feijoa & Apple Chutney and preserve food that we picked up and saved from the compost pile! Great conversations and friends made throughout the day.

This Saturday 18 April we will facilitating our final preserving class for this term and making Sassy Salsa. Our class is FULL once again with 8 people on the waiting list. This is remarkable and demonstrates that people young and old are eager to learn the art of preserving! How exciting to be collaborating with Onehunga Community Centre, The Trust Community Foundation and Onehunga High School Adult and Community Education to offer these educational programmes for people in the Maungakiekie-Tāmaki Local Board area. Thank you all for your support with offering these classes to people within the community for FREE!

It was our B2B final session yesterday ...wow 6 weeks goes by quickly when you're having fun! We rounded off our learning with a focus on mental/emotional health, covering various modes of self help such as affirmations, visualization, EFT, Aromatherapy and Homoeopathy. We all prepared Lentil Bolognese with Zucchini Noodles for our meal & Healthy Granola with fried bananas and vanilla yogurt for a dessert because the students wanted to learn how to make healthy granola.

We want to thank The Trust Community Foundation, Onehunga Community Centre and Onehunga High School Adult and Community Education for sponsoring Term:1 2026 wellness programme. Our next 6-week programme is set for 7 Oct thru 11 Nov 2026. If you are interested in joining please email to register: [email protected].

During our Back 2 Basics 4th week class at Onehunga Community Centre , naturopath Shirley Tuffery talked about chronic disease and digging deeper into the cause and effects of inflammation and how it creates the climate for chronic diseases. Anti inflammatory self help solutions were discussed, including foods to eat or avoid, supplements to take and lifestyle choices to change or adopt.

During our hands-on cooking class, students learned how to make Open-Face Tofu sandwiches with cauliflower mash, spinach salad and baked pears which was a great combination of good food made easy to support our bodies to reduce inflammation.
