Good Life in the Bay - Local Area Coordination Local Area Coordination - connecting disabled people and their whānau with their community to live a good life.

‘The Good Life’ is certainly what many of us experience, when living in such a beautiful part of the world. What makes life good for one person, might not necessarily make life good for another. However, we know that for most people there are common elements such as loving relationships with friends & family, a safe & secure home life, being able to make a contribution to our community, having a j

ob, enjoying school, being happy, having enough money, hobbies & interests and for many people a connection with a higher purpose or spirituality. If there are somethings that make life good, then by default, there are also some things that tend to make life not so good. One cohort of people who are often denied or struggle to attain the good things of life are disabled persons and their family / whanau. A lived experience of disability can have profound implications for one’s ability to have a good life. Local Area Coordination has merged with a larger organisation and now under the umbrella of Your Way | Kia Roha. It is an approach that primarily focuses on networking with disabled people, their families / whanau and local community to become clearer on what would make life good, we help to discover/nurture one's strengths and then build a plan to engage in a new valued path and future. We offer outside the box thinking and creative approaches to planning. Local Area Coordination is a free approach contracted by (Whaikaha) the Ministry of Social Development. Local Area Coordinators are alongside you on your journey. Each person will have a different pace and space where this needs to happen. We are flexible and friendly and look forward to seeing you connect with those things, people, places and activities that give you a sense of value and purpose. You will move on and gain confidence, building on your own personal good life, within your local community. If you would like to know more about how LAC can assist you personally, or you have some time and energy to assist others, we’d love to hear from you. Find out about the LAC approach, please email us: [email protected]
