Kapiti Neuro Therapy Corinne Allan

Kapiti Neuro Therapy Corinne Allan I am a skilled Art Therapist, I draw upon mindfulness based Cognitive Therapy. Colours tell a story and colours can help individuals to balance heal themselves.

Qualified Therapist working with learning and behavioural difficulties, complex disorders, autism spectrum disorder, social/separation anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, traumatic brain injury, stroke, and general trauma recovery. I use natural earth colours and encourage clients to mix their own personal colours. I use different techniques to support self expression of emotions in a non ver

bal gentle way. Every person will unconsciously mix or choose colours to their personal preference. Through using simple painting techniques you will notice over a period of 6-8 weeks a significant change with the use of colour that will heal trauma, shocks, unhappiness etc. As this is a non verbal technique it is ideal for everyone to connect with their emotions in a safe way. As aspergers, dyspraxia, dyslexia, dyscaculia, ADD, autism, anxiety are an imbalance of the left brain and Art therapy will stimulate the right side of the brain which over time balance symptoms out.

Your nervous system is not trying to ruin your life, it’s trying to protect you.

Sometimes that protection looks like anxiety, sometimes it looks like overwhelm, shutdown, irritability, exhaustion, avoidance, or feeling emotionally “too much.” These are not character flaws, they are nervous system states.

When we understand what state we’re in, we can respond with more compassion and support instead of shame and self-judgement.

Regulation isn’t about being calm all the time, it’s about helping the body feel safe enough to come back into balance. 💛

Motor development is about so much more than movement.

It can affect confidence, focus, coordination, emotional regulation, learning, handwriting, balance, posture, sensory processing, and even how safe and connected someone feels in their own body.

At Kāpiti Neurotherapy, Motor Development Therapy supports the brain and body to work together more effectively through movement-based activities designed to strengthen foundational developmental skills.

This may support children or adults who experience:
• poor coordination or balance
• clumsiness or low body awareness
• difficulty sitting still or focusing
• delayed motor skills
• sensory challenges
• emotional dysregulation
• struggles with handwriting or physical tasks
• retained primitive reflexes

Movement plays a powerful role in nervous system development. When foundational motor patterns are strengthened, many people experience improvements not just physically, but emotionally, socially, and cognitively too.

Every nervous system develops differently...sometimes the body simply needs the right support to reconnect and regulate. 💛

Beautiful isn’t perfection. It isn’t filters, trends, fitting in, or becoming smaller so other people feel comfortable.

Beautiful is authenticity. It’s the moment someone stops pretending and starts fully being themselves.

BE-YOU-tiful.

The people who shine the brightest are usually the ones who finally stopped hiding their quirks, softness, intensity, creativity, sensitivity, weirdness, passion, or truth just to fit someone else’s mold.

There is something incredibly powerful about a person who is unapologetically themselves.

That’s real beauty. ✨

Not all nervous systems experience the world the same way.

For one person, a clothing tag is barely noticeable, for another, it feels unbearable all day long. One child might walk easily into a noisy classroom, another may already feel overwhelmed before the school day even begins.

Some people feel emotions intensely, some struggle with eye contact because it feels uncomfortable or overstimulating, some avoid certain foods because texture, smell, or taste can trigger a genuine sensory response...not “fussiness.”

Transitions, loud sounds, crowded environments, bright lights, unexpected changes… these experiences can affect neurodivergent nervous systems very differently.

Understanding this changes the question from:

“What’s wrong with them?”

to:

“What might they be experiencing right now?”

Compassion grows when we realise not everybody’s brain and nervous system process the world the same way. 💛

At Kāpiti Neurotherapy, the focus is simple: helping people better understand their brains, nervous systems, and emotional responses in a way that feels supportive, practical, and empowering.

Using a combination of neurotherapy, mindfulness, creative approaches, sensory support, and nervous system regulation tools, Kāpiti Neurotherapy works with children, teens, and adults experiencing challenges such as anxiety, overwhelm, emotional dysregulation, neurodiversity, trauma, stress, and burnout.

This isn’t about “fixing” people. It’s about helping individuals feel safer in their own minds and bodies, build stronger coping strategies, and create healthier pathways for everyday life, relationships, learning, and wellbeing.

Every brain is different. Support should be too.

Sometimes children connect to animals more easily than they connect to labels.

A child may not yet have the words to explain that they need quiet, feel everything deeply, notice every sound in a room, or need time and space before they trust people. But ask them what animal they feel like, and suddenly they can describe themselves with surprising clarity.

At Kapiti Neurotherapy, we love approaches that help children understand themselves through curiosity instead of criticism. The idea of a “soul animal” is not about boxing children into personality types. It’s about gently exploring their natural temperament, sensory world, emotional patterns, intuition, energy, and the way they move through life.

Some children are playful and social, while others are quiet observers who take in everything around them. Some crave movement and adventure, others need calm, routine, and emotional safety before they open up fully.

And honestly, adults can learn a lot from this too.

Some people move through the world like elephants: grounded, loyal, emotionally wise. Others are more like horses, needing freedom, movement, and space to breathe. Some are observant owls, some gentle deer, some playful dolphins, and some are more solitary creatures who need retreat and quiet before reconnecting again.

A lot of us spend years trying to become who the world expects us to be without ever stopping to ask who we naturally are underneath all the noise.

So maybe instead of asking “What’s wrong with me?” we could start asking:

What kind of creature am I at the core?

What environment makes me happy? Do I like a loud or quiet spaces?

Do i like the sea, forest, open landscapes or the air?

What do I like to eat...vegetables, meat or both?

How do i like my environment...loud, busy, relaxed...?

Am I shy, fast, talkative, observing, competitive or playful?

What social settings makes me happy?

Do I feel comfortable in a small or large group?

Do I like the day or I am more active at night?

Soule animals helps us to connect to our emotions and needs so we can make necessary changes.

We’d genuinely love to know - what do you think your soul animal is? And how about your child?🦌🐘🦉🐎🐋
