Yesterday's snow across Wellington and the lower North Island was a beautiful reminder that winter still has a little magic left to share. ❄️ Even when the landscape feels cold and still, nature is quietly preparing for what comes next. Soon the days will lengthen, the earth will begin to warm, and spring will awaken new life all around us.
Mirimiri has always reflected these same rhythms of nature.
For generations, Māori have practised mirimiri as a way of restoring balance to the tinana (body), hinengaro (mind), wairua (spirit), and mauri (life force). Traditionally, mirimiri wasn't simply about easing sore muscles. It was a holistic practice of healing, reconnecting people with themselves, their whakapapa, and the natural world around them.
Winter invites us to slow down.
It's a season for rest, reflection, and allowing our bodies to recover from the busyness of life. The cold can leave us feeling stiff, tired, carrying tension through our backs, shoulders, neck, and joints. It's also a time when many of us forget to care for ourselves while we're busy caring for everyone else.
As we prepare to welcome spring, now is the perfect opportunity to invest in your own wellbeing.
A mirimiri massage can help:
🌿 Release muscle tension and stiffness.
🌿 Improve circulation and support the body's natural healing.
🌿 Reduce stress and encourage deep relaxation.
🌿 Calm the mind and promote better sleep.
🌿 Restore balance and leave you feeling refreshed, grounded, and ready for the season ahead.
Just as the trees prepare to bud and the whenua prepares for new growth, we too deserve the chance to rejuvenate.
Take a little time for yourself this season. Your body will thank you.
