Congratulations on the unique beautifu erudite space that is ICAN. A place where manners matter and education is paramount.

June is a very special month on ICAN as we celebrate 5 years of connection, collaboration, learning, and professional growth.

Throughout the month, we will be shining a spotlight on some of our wonderful Professional Members from around the world. Each day, we’ll share the voice of an ICANer who will tell us what they value most about being part of this international community — whether it’s the friendships, the learning opportunities, the support, the inspiration, or the sense of belonging that ICAN provides.

These stories reflect the heart of our network and the people who make it what it is. We hope you’ll enjoy discovering the many different perspectives, experiences, and journeys that have shaped ICAN over the past five years.

Stay tuned throughout June for a daily celebration of our Members, alongside birthday events, special activities, educational sessions, and community gatherings across the platform.

Thank you for being part of our story — and for helping shape the next chapter of ICAN’s evolution.

In the diary for sure as Lavender is possibly my favourite plant and it takes place on my birthday. Magic.

Did you know… Lavandula has been used medicinally and ritually for over 2,500 years, with records from ancient Egyptian, Greek and Roman sources?

Historically, lavender was valued for purification, wound care, and emotional wellbeing. While modern aromatherapy primarily uses distilled essential oils, these traditional herbal applications provide important context for ongoing research and contemporary therapeutic use.

Sign up for this special edition of botanica2026 and take a deep dive into the world of Lavandula at www.botanica2026.com

Evidence to support the use of 1,8-cineole rich essential oils in the treatment of respiratory issues.

Evidence to support the use of 1,8-cineole rich essential oils in the treatment of respiratory issues.

Clinical trials (Worth et al.) have shown that 1,8-Cineole—the primary compound in Eucalyptus—acts as a natural 'active controller' for airway inflammation. New clinical reviews in 2024 continue to uphold this as a gold-standard adjunctive therapy for keeping airways clear and reducing seasonal flare-ups.

We are honoured to welcome Federica Pollastro, Professor of Phytochemistry at the University of Eastern Piedmont, to botanica2026.

Professor Pollastro’s work bridges traditional botanical knowledge and modern phytochemical research. Her expertise includes the isolation and structural elucidation of bioactive plant compounds, with extensive research on sesquiterpene lactones, chemoreception mechanisms, nociception pathways (TRPs), bitter taste receptors, rare sesterpenes, and novel non-psychoactive cannabinoids.

Her research has contributed to identifying molecular targets and mechanisms of action of complex natural toxins and pharmacologically relevant compounds. Prof. Pallastro is recipient of the ElSohly Award from the American Chemical Society and serves as local coordinator of the EMOTION Master Program.

At botanica2026, she will guide us through the scientific journey of Helichrysum microphyllum — from early botanical insights to the identification of arzanol and its relevance in modern research.
