I recently came across this excellent lead article on chronic pain in The Listener, which discusses the idea that pain is not purely physical, but influenced by many interacting factors - often referred to as the biopsychosocial model.

The issue is available on the Libby library app.

It’s encouraging to see this way of understanding pain becoming more widely discussed, as it can open up different ways of thinking about managing persistent pain.

This is the approach I have been working with for a number of years, often in partnership with healthcare professionals.

If this way of understanding pain resonates, you are very welcome to get in touch - I’d be happy to explore with you whether it might be helpful in your situation.

My passion for pain management began years ago through studies with the Neuro Orthopaedic Institute (NOI Group) and Otago University and continues as I am working towards a research project on pain coaching in primary care.
Living with persistent pain is challenging but there is a lot we can do to improve quality of life alongside medical care.
