Day 3 of Fieldays and we’ve met some amazing people. A snapshot of just a handful of those that the team have been lucky enough to meet so far. Looking forward to even more on our final day āpōpō!

This week we had the pleasure of recognising Julian McCarthy as a recipient of our Sir Charles Burns Memorial Award here at Diabetes New Zealand National Office. This award recognises people who have managed their diabetes through insulin therapy for 50 years or more.

Julian has been living with type 1 diabetes since 1963, after being diagnosed at just 10 years old, and has seen significant changes in diabetes care over that time.

Julian credits his family, especially his mum and brother, and the many health professionals who have supported him over the years. His story is a powerful reminder of resilience and progress.

Congratulations Julian, what an achievement.

Day 1 at Fieldays was amazing, and very chilly! So chilly in fact that the team had to warm up their equipment as well as themselves. If you didn't make it today, never fear - you still have a few more days for free testing and great chats.

Men's Health Week NZ is a reminder to take a closer look at your health.

Living with diabetes isn’t just physical. It can take a toll mentally too.

You don’t have to do it all at once. Small steps, like checking in with yourself or talking to someone, can make a real difference.

Support and practical tips are available via our website:

We're back at Fieldays tomorrow and we'd love to see you at our stall again this year.

Last year we had over 1,200 conversations, tested more than 300 blood sugar levels, calculated almost 200 HbA1c figures, and prompted 65 people to visit their GP off the back of abnormal results. Those numbers matter to us.

Come and find us in the same spot as last year. We'll have the team on hand for free testing, a kōrero, or just to answer any questions you've been sitting on. See you there!

A bit of prep on the weekend can take so much pressure off the rest of the week, especially when you're keeping on top of medications, meals, and appointments.

We're doing a fridge clear out and getting some kai sorted for the week ahead.

Need some inspiration? We've got a collection of diabetes-friendly recipes right here:

Manuia le Vaiaso o le Gagana Samoa | Happy Samoan Language Week!

The theme this year is “E afua mai i mauga tetele manuia o le nu'u”
From the high mountains are the blessings of the village.

How incredible are these portraits from the Ministry for Pacific Peoples. There’s something really powerful about seeing generations and stories captured like this, and even better that they’ve made them free for everyone to share.

At Diabetes New Zealand, we’re always reminded that living well with diabetes is shaped by the people around us, our families, our communities, and our connections.

If you use a TruSteel infusion set with your Tandem insulin pump, this one's for you.

There is currently a global supply issue affecting TruSteel infusion sets. From 1 June, TruSteel products will be dispensed monthly rather than in larger quantities to help manage limited supply.

Pharmac also funds the AutoSoft infusion sets, which are compatible with Tandem pumps and are these are not affected by this supply issue. Your healthcare team will let you know if AutoSoft is a suitable option for you.

The Autosoft is applied differently from the TruSteel product, so NZMS has put together resources to support those of you who may need to transition to AutoSoft infusion sets, including instructional videos and guides.
