โ„๏ธ๐Ÿ Today's the shortest day of the year! ๐Ÿโ„๏ธ

Did you know that worker bees born during summer usually live for only 5โ€“6 weeks? During that time they're busy foraging, raising brood, making honey, and keeping the hive running.

Winter bees are different. Hatched in autumn, they are specially adapted to survive through the colder months, often living for several months while clustering together to keep the hive warm and the colony thriving until spring.

While we're keeping warm indoors today, our bees are tucked up inside their hive, working together to make it through winter.

Nature is truly amazing!

๐Ÿฏ๐Ÿย Looking for a healthier way to satisfy your sweet tooth?

Look no further! Our New Zealand Honey is a delicious natural alternative to refined sugar โ€” and a little goes a long way because honey is naturally sweeter.

We love adding a spoonful to our morning cuppa, drizzling it over porridge, and using it in our favourite baking recipes. Not only does it taste amazing, but it brings a touch of nature's goodness to every bite.

How do you enjoy your honey? ๐Ÿฏโœจ

๐ŸฆŒ๐Ÿ Breakfast Visitor in the Apiary! ๐Ÿ๐ŸฆŒ

This little spiker deer has wandered into the apiary this morning and decided the long grass is on the menu for breakfast! ๐ŸŒฟ

While the bees are all tucked up warm in their hives on this chilly morning, our unexpected visitor is helping out with a bit of lawn maintenance.

It's always a treat to see the wildlife that shares our little corner of the valley. ๐Ÿ’›

๐Ÿ Did You Know? ๐Ÿ

In New Zealand, all beekeepers are legally required to register their apiaries and hives. Each beekeeper is issued a unique identification number, which must be clearly displayed on a hive or on a sign at the apiary. This helps with biosecurity, disease management, and tracing hive ownership if needed.

The system is particularly important for monitoring and controlling American Foulbrood (AFB), a serious bee disease that can spread between colonies. All registered beekeepers must keep their apiary information up to date through the national registration system.

So next time you see a number painted on the side of a beehive, that's not just a random codeโ€”it's the beekeeper's registered identification number!
