From one referral to a life-changing routine 💙

After joining the Green Prescription programme, Loie and Brendon have transformed their health, confidence, and connection. What started as a step toward recovery has turned into a weekly routine of gym and aqua classes—up to four times a week!

In just two months, they’ve boosted fitness, built strength, and found a supportive community (and even discovered they enjoy workouts they never thought they would!).

Their journey is a powerful reminder: it’s never too late to start, and small steps can lead to big change. 🙌

Every day, we’re lucky to work alongside some truly inspiring people 💚

After spinal surgery and later a hip replacement, Gary Paul was determined to get back to what he loves most – waka ama. With the support of our wonderful Nat who works in the Green Prescription programme, he rebuilt his strength, returning to paddling just weeks after each surgery.

Now in his 70s, Gary trains regularly, paddles up to 20km at a time, and has recently helped his team win silver at Nationals – earning a spot at the 2026 IVF Va’a World Sprint Championships 🌊

For Gary, it’s about more than fitness – it’s about whānau, connection, and lifelong passion.

When Brigid first connected with Green Prescription, her health felt like it was slipping away. Today, she’s at the gym up to six times a week, has lost 24kg, is no longer prediabetic, and has rediscovered her love of movement ❤️

With support from Green Prescription, her GP, and the welcoming team at Kensington Fitness, Brigid took one brave step through the gym doors — and never looked back. Confidence has grown, habits have changed, and life feels brighter, inside and out.

The good news? There are plenty of simple ways to stay active while keeping travel easy and low‑cost. Many people starting out are already trying small changes that make things feel more manageable:

🌿 Simple Travel Tips That Can Help You Save Fuel
These small habits can make getting to your sessions easier on your budget:

Drive smoothly and take your time — gentle acceleration and steady speeds use less fuel.

Check your tyre pressure — it helps your vehicle run better and more efficiently.

Combine trips — if you’re already going out for shopping or an appointment, you can plan your activity around the same outing.

Ride with others — ask classmates, neighbours, or whānau if they’d like to share the drive.

Look ahead on the road — easing off early rather than braking suddenly can help you save fuel too.

💪 Tracy’s Green Prescription Journey 💚

Tracy wanted to get active but needed the right support. Through Green Prescription, she got a trial pass to Kensington Fitness, expert guidance, and monthly check-ins.

She loved it so much she signed up!

Now Tracy enjoys walking, yoga, and strength training 3–4 times a week because, as she says: “It makes me feel good and empowered – mana enhancing.”

Her advice? 👉 “Get out of your own way and start.”
