Ngāti Hine Health Trust has been strengthening our understanding of climate risk over recent months. We have been refining maps, exploring how impacts cascade, and listening to the kōrero shared in February. It’s now time to go deeper.

We are coming together on April 8th to ask:
• What risks can we not afford to ignore?
• What can our communities tolerate, and what can’t they?
• Where should we focus first?
• How do climate impacts ripple across kāinga, kai and wai, affecting whānau, services, and places?

These are not questions we can answer alone and we are inviting you to take part. Your local knowledge, lived experience, and perspective are essential for us to move forward!

It was a privilege to attend our first Outreach Clinic for the Matawaia community at Matawaia Marae. It was a special day that felt like the realisation of dreams once held by Ngāti Hine Health Trust’s first Trustees representing Matawaia, Andy Murray and Rongo Morton. Moe mai rā kōrua. 🤍🪶

Despite the rain, our team was warmly welcomed with a whakatau, sharing mihimihi, waiata and laughter before introducing the range of hauora services available to whānau. These included health checks, diabetes support, cancer awareness, vaccinations, podiatry and rongoā services supporting overall ōranga physically, mentally and spiritually.

Our clinics were held in the Marae’s purpose-built Hauora and Whānau rooms, with nurses, diabetes kaimahi, podiatry, prostate health support and rongoā practitioners all caring for whānau throughout the day. We were also grateful to have Jaycee Tipene-Thomas from Hōhou Te Rongoā join us, reflecting our strong collaboration in the rongoā and taiao spaces and how deeply connected they are.

Even with the weather, we had around 20 engagements. Ngā mihi nui to everyone who helped make the day a success. We look forward to continuing this important mahi together. 🫱🏽‍🫲🏾

Ngāti Hine Health Trust Kaiwhiriwhiri ✨GIVE BACK DAY ✨

Our Ngāti Hine Health Trust Kaiwhiriwhiri Team are excited to host our second “Give Back Day” next week! This kaupapa runs every three months and is all about manaakitanga, sustainability, and hiki te wairua, me te mana o te whānau!

We’ve teamed up with our awesome community partners Te Puna Aroha and The Sweatshop to bring this day to life. 💛

👕 How it works:
Whānau are welcome to come in, browse the kākahu, and take whatever they need — totally free, no criteria, no limits.

🤝 How we give back together:
Afterwards, whānau are invited to stay and help de‑button, de‑zip, and prep the remaining garments. These are then passed on to EcoSolutions to be transformed into mattresses and other sustainable products. ♻️

This kaupapa is about looking after each other and Papatūānuku — reducing waste, strengthening community, and supporting whānau with aroha and dignity.
