Kia ora Whanau,
Firstly - My apologies, I have been battling a consistent flu the past few weeks, I was thankfully recovered enough to attend an amazing hauora kaupapa in Paeroa on the weekend.

I will be reaching out to all my ACC clients this week to schedule in Hauora sessions and once they are locked in, I will endeavor to follow up with the additional requested sessions.

Here is my service availability for the upcoming 3months.

πŸŒΏπŸ’š Marae Life ✨
Great overview of how tangi are generally managed, share with your whanau πŸ™Œ

Me whaiwhakaaro whanau!!

Mā wai rā e taurima te marae i waho nei?

Sometimes people arrive onto the marae and think everything somehow just appears.

The lawns are done.
The whare is warm.
The mattresses are laid out.
The photos are placed properly.
The chairs are set.
The kai is ready.
The jug is hot.
The gas bottles are connected.
The water tanks are full.
The urupā is prepared.
The hakari is ready.

As though marae fairies came in the night and quietly made it all happen.

But behind every huimate, every hui, every gathering at Kaikou Marae are our people:

Marae Kaitiaki.
Ringawera.
Kaikaranga.
Kaikarakia.
Taumata.
Kai Keri Poka.

Runners making countless trips to the supermarket, picking up last minute supplies, milk, bread, sugar, meat, gas, and all the things no one notices until they’re missing.

Whānau who stay up late and wake early.

Those who carry the visible and invisible mahi of the marae.

Some roles are physical.
Some are spiritual.
Some are quiet.
Some are heavy.

All are important.

The way these roles are carried out may differ from marae to marae, hapū to hapū, whānau to whānau. There is no single way these responsibilities are upheld across our people. But what remains the same is the willingness of tangata to stand up, carry responsibility, and ensure the mana of the marae continues.

β€œMā wai rā e taurima te marae i waho nei” is more than a question. It is a reminder that the marae survives because people continue to serve, prepare, uphold, support and carry one another.

Me whaiwhakaaro tatou!!

🌿Protect our Kauri

A H Reed Memorial Park has just been formally closed for kauri protection.

Phytophthora agathidicida has been found in the reserve, the pathogen which causes kauri dieback. The reserve will be temporarily closed while further testing can be undertaken.

This urgent action has been undertaken in partnership with hapΕ«, Northland Regional Council and Whangarei District Council.

Thank you for your help in protecting our kauri, please do not enter A H Reed Memorial Park until the rahui has been lifted.
