Beneath every paddock, every garden bed, every patch of earth, there is an entire universe of life.

Bacteria. Fungi. Protozoa. Nematodes. Earthworms. All working together in ways science is still only beginning to understand. Breaking down nutrients. Building soil structure. Drawing carbon down from the atmosphere. Making life on earth possible.

When we reach for the herbicide or till the soil unnecessarily, we're not just treating a w**d or preparing a seedbed. We're disturbing one of the most complex ecosystems on the planet.

Regenerative farming starts here. Underground. Invisible. And absolutely essential.

save this and send it to someone who needs to see it. 🌿

Interesting post below from Organic NZ but from observation he may need educating on how GE and Organics cannot co-exist? Feed back has been he thinks they can, waiting for clarity on this one.

GOOD NEWS from Organic NZ: The government has appointed the country's first ever minister with specific responsibility for the organic sector - Mike Butterick, Associate Minister for Agriculture – Organics.

As far as we know this is also a world first to have a minister dedicated to organics!

The organic sector generates $1.2 billion annually and $606.7 million in export earnings, growing at TWICE the rate of conventional food and fibre exports. Global demand for certified organic is forecast to hit US$650 billion by 2033. The case for a dedicated ministerial voice has never been stronger, and now we have one.

As OANZ chair Noel Josephson put it: this is "the most significant government commitment to the organic sector since the passing of the Organic Products and Production Act in 2023."

New Zealand is serious about organic. Thank you Organics Aotearoa New Zealand (OANZ) for continuing to work at a high level on behalf of the whole organic sector.

Mike Butterick is pictured here (centre), flanked by Brendan H***e and Scott Lawson from OANZ.

New in store at Putiputi Ra: A unique blueberry salt blend you can use it to add extra flavour to hot chips or as a spritz of colour over mayonnaise, or use as a rub or light crust on steak, or sprinkle over red tomatoes and mozzarella for a twist on classic Italian, or on tomatoes and red onion with white wine vinegar for a French touch, or simply sprinkle over mashed potatoes.

This house-made blend contains organic pink Himalayan salt and organic blueberry powder, in a special granule size.

It's a great pruduct for people who are making a fancy meal as a talking point for guests 🙂 can' t wait to give this a try...

"A new analysis of regenerative food labels reveals a rapidly expanding — but inconsistent — marketplace that risks causing consumer confusion. As interest in sustainably grown food grows, the Friends of the Earth report finds that products can bear similar claims but may represent vastly different farming practices on the ground. Consumers trying to make healthier and more environmentally responsible food choices face a grab bag of labels.

'While consumers might reasonably assume that 'regenerative' food is grown without toxic pesticides, that's not always the case,' said Sarah Starman, senior campaigner at Friends of the Earth U.S. 'Some regenerative labeling programs allow the use of synthetic pesticides, including substances linked to cancer, hormone disruption, infertility, and neurological harm. Consumers may not always be getting what they believe they're paying for.'

The report evaluates 10 prominent food labeling programs, finding that certifications using the term 'regenerative' vary dramatically in what they actually require—and some of the most rigorous standards meeting regenerative principles don't use the term at all."

Hey Mr. Google and Mr. Bing, we don't want your AI misinformation. Our name is Putiputi Ra, meaning flower of the sun but do we sell flowers!!!! 🌻🌻🌻🌻 No, we sell health products, the hope of wellbeing, lifestyle products, organic food products, gluten free and vegan, we have a fully qualified Homeopath, Naturopath and Herbalist to help our customers. We have a selected ranges in skin care, personal care, super supplements, so much for our customers to choose from. Too many to list put that in your search engines but what we don't want is old information picked up as new, old store hours regurgitated as present shared with external portals confusing people. Old descriptions which are inaccurate.

What we don't want is our information stolen and duplicated fraudulently which is why we laid a complaint with face book a few years back for theft and misrepresentation, as our face book page which had been duplicated, photos and posts stolen blatantly misleading the public and linked to our old address which we lost during online difficulties with security during the covid lockdown April 2020, which was the first month of covid lockdown and when the Government ordered a shutdown on Social media misinformation and when the format/use of this face book page was forced to change. For months we were without a website well paid for in advance and knew not why it suddenly disappeared? Then sometime later we discovered it was being used and linked to a bogus page copying us and our advertising, we were mortified, the regulators were inadequate in holding the same a party accountable for misusing and misleading, regardless of the claims of a new task force to help. Though face book did shut the duplicate fraudulent page down the website .co.nz was still live and still is noticeably. (This is what lead to the change of web address from co.nz to www.putiputira.com)

Hey, Mr. Google and Mr Bing, what we need is our customers to have confidence that when you link our store with information that it is accurate and not sourced inaccurately from a third and fourth party in non specific terms passed off and implied as fact.

To our dear customers in this age of online information, of dependency and compliance, there is a lot of hope for convenience but also a lot of disappointment when products and descriptions are old news, this is rampant even in up to date shopping websites where they are not edited regularly, you think you can purchase, go through all your choices then find out you've wasted you time, when you click shopping, it comes up blank, not even implying at times out of stock.

Often we expect up to date information but find when you look deeper the link information has already expired and not removed, still online in differing layers on differing portals due to search engines. Realestate advertising is a good example. Photos of a property for sale can be up for years giving away too much information about a property for would be thieves, google earth street view, again though novel and useful has it's down side for giving away too much aspect information too easily for would be criminals. It's seems for every benefit there are other consequences to consider and as this online world progresses we are somewhat forced into navigating through these changes. Just today I found a service post advertising Putiputi ra which had the date of establishment of the business as Oct 2013 which was blindly incorrect, they had taken the date of when I established the face book page, it quoted old hours from over 10 years ago and the obsolete troublesome co.nz web address. Please be vigilant and not too disappointed if you see something online and find we do not have it in stock, how and why there will be variables, if you have a query about a new product specifically, save yourself a trip and give us a ring the old fashoned way, we do not want you to come all the way in store with an expectation from an online presentation which implies something we simply know nothing about. We do not want you to be frustrated and disappointed but in the same breath neither do we not want to please. We work very hard to offer the best we can, if we don't have it in stock, in the past we have tried to source for our customers or explained why we may no longer have it in stock, etc.

In the confusion of modern life it is easy to forget those human interactions are so important, especially when you have a work ethic and drive to make a difference and you are greeted with the complexity of a medium that is out of your control.

We look forward to continuing to serve all our customers to the best of our ability and strive to keep our store a haven for nurturing and good will but we must learn from experience and share knowledge to stay safe in this online existence which is growing it's tentacles into all aspects of our lives not always so productively as once assumed.

We wish you all good health and happy nurturing as you search out your most precious needs to sustain your health.
signing off for now, Bev

Another great story!

Another great story!

Nearly 30 years ago, Greg Hart looked at his 600-hectare farm and made a decision that would change everything.

He walked away from conventional agriculture. Not out of idealism — out of observation. The land was telling him something wasn't working. So, he listened.

But the hardest part wasn't changing the farm. It was changing the thinking.

"One of the biggest challenges is breaking free from conventional mindsets. We've been conditioned to see farming as an extractive industry — but in reality, it can be regenerative. Financial pressures and scepticism from peers can also be tough. But seeing the land respond positively keeps us going."

That right there is the reality no one talks about enough. The doubt. The financial pressure. The neighbours who think you've lost the plot.

And yet, Mangarara Regenerative Farm and Lodge now runs 700 cattle using holistic rotational grazing, has planted over 85,000 native trees, and grows more biodiverse every single year.

The land responded. It always does.
This is what regenerative farming looks like in Aotearoa. Not perfect. Not overnight. Just one decision, one practice, one season at a time. 🌿
