Ia ora na
The last days of 2024 have guided me towards new horizons even if on my own island. I’ve also had the chance to appreciate the cyclical aspect of life:
Since 2016, I’ve been listening to and following the sounds of pacific ancestors and friends through the art of TĀTAU. It was literally a calling for me. A calling from Tiki.
Today, my main quest in a artistic way and also in a spiritual way is to reconsider my practice of TĀTAU as a marker of identity.
With just a glance at a tattoo you should be able to tell the essence of someone’s roots.
The following pictures are approximately 20 years apart. The first one was taken in the years 2000’s,
The second one is from today. I took it.
This erected stone, ‘Ōfa’i ti’a, was a marker found at the national marae of Nu’urua, Haapiti Moorea. RUĀHATU, god of the seas and ocean was venerated in this place. He, the god of sea, created the pass in front of it, Te ava Taota.
This stone called me, via the wind actually.
Since the voice of Tiki is fading, I’m trying to listen deeply to the winds so that I can take it all in and interpret it through TĀTAU.
