📣 Expressions of Interest Now Open!

RECSI, in collaboration with our implementing partner Pacific-Community-SPC, is inviting acute care clinicians from Timor-Leste and Pacific Island Countries to join our new Continuing Health Professional Education (CHPE) Working Group.

This is a great opportunity to help shape high-impact emergency and critical care education across the region — from guiding program design to identifying priority topics and recommending speakers.

⭐ WORLD CERVICAL CANCER ELIMINATION DAY 2025

📅 17th November 2025
🌍 Papua New Guinea joins the global movement

Today, we stand with the world to mark World Cervical Cancer Elimination Day, a powerful reminder that cervical cancer is preventable, treatable, and—together—we can eliminate it.

Papua New Guinea continues to face one of the highest cervical cancer burdens globally. Too many mothers, daughters, sisters, and friends are lost every year to a disease that should not cost a life. But change is possible, and it starts with awareness, prevention, and action.

💙 HPV vaccination protects our young girls
💙 HPV DNA testing and early screening save lives
💙 Timely treatment prevents cancer from developing

As a nation, we must continue to strengthen HPV vaccination programs, expand screening across all provinces, and ensure that even our most remote communities have access to lifesaving services.

Today, let us raise our voices for:
✔️ Equity in women’s health
✔️ Access to HPV vaccines for every girl
✔️ Screening and treatment for every woman
✔️ A future free from cervical cancer

Together with our global partners—and with the dedication of PNG’s nurses, midwives, doctors, and health workers—we can make cervical cancer a disease of the past.

Let’s protect our women. Let’s protect our girls. Let’s eliminate cervical cancer.

🎓 Strengthening Pediatric Oncology Nursing in Papua New Guinea

The Papua New Guinea Oncology Nurses Association (PaNGONA) proudly recognizes the participation of over 50 dedicated nurses in the “Fundamentals for Pediatric Hematology & Oncology Nurses” course, offered under the globally respected St. Jude Global Nursing Initiative (Cure4Kids Platform).

📅 Course Commencement: 1 November 2025
💻 First Virtual Session: 1 December 2025
🩺 Module 1 – Nursing Assessment must be completed prior to the live session

This competency-based, internationally accredited program empowers pediatric oncology nurses to:

1. Enhance evidence-based clinical expertise in pediatric hematology and oncology

2. Engage in reflective, expert-led live sessions to consolidate learning

3. Develop professional competencies aligned with global standards

4. Build a network of oncology nursing specialists across PNG and the Pacific

The structured approach — completing modules prior to interactive sessions — ensures deep learning, critical reflection, and practical integration of knowledge into clinical practice.

🙏 PaNGONA extends sincere gratitude to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital for this transformative educational initiative, and to the course facilitators and mentors whose dedication and expertise underpin its success.

💜 By engaging in this program, these nurses exemplify PaNGONA’s mission: to unite, empower, and elevate oncology nursing practice in Papua New Guinea. Their commitment strengthens the quality, equity, and accessibility of pediatric cancer care nationwide.

🎗 INSIGHT FROM PaNGONA: CANCER TREATMENT IN PAPUA NEW GUINEA 🎗

Cancer can be treated — and in many cases, cured — when detected early and managed with the full range of available therapies.
In Papua New Guinea, the development of comprehensive cancer centres is vital to ensuring that every patient has access to diagnosis, surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and palliative care under one coordinated system.

These centres will not only improve treatment outcomes, but also strengthen research, education, and the capacity of oncology nurses and other health professionals across the country.

At PaNGONA, we believe that every patient deserves quality, timely, and compassionate care — wherever they live.
Together, through collaboration and investment in cancer infrastructure, we can change the story of cancer in Papua New Guinea.

Reach out to us today and be part of this national movement to improve cancer care. 💙

🎗 PUBLIC CLARIFICATION: PaNGONA & PNG CANCER FOUNDATION 🎗

There has been ongoing public confusion between the Papua New Guinea Oncology Nurses Association (PaNGONA) and the PNG Cancer Foundation (PNGCF). While both organizations are deeply committed to the national fight against cancer, their mandates and areas of focus are distinct yet complementary.

🩺 PaNGONA is a professional and humanitarian association led by oncology nurses across Papua New Guinea.
Our focus is to:

1. Deliver quality care and advocacy for patients living with cancer.

2. Strengthen and empower nurses through education, research, and leadership.

3. Promote awareness and community engagement to encourage early detection and support.

🎗 PNG Cancer Foundation (PNGCF) is a non-governmental organization (NGO) that focuses on:

1. Public awareness and prevention of cancer.

2. Encouraging healthy lifestyles, early screening, and risk reduction through outreach programs.

🔹 In summary:

PNGCF focuses on preventing cancer through public awareness.

PaNGONA focuses on patients, nursing care, and awareness within hospitals and communities.

Both organizations are vital partners in Papua New Guinea’s cancer response — PNGCF prevents, while PaNGONA cares, supports, and educates. Together, we strengthen the fight against cancer through prevention, compassion, and professional excellence. 💙🎗

Let's talk about Prostate Cancer🎗

Prostate cancer starts when cells in the prostate gland grow uncontrollably. It’s the most common cancer in men over 50, often slow growing, but sometimes aggressive. 🩵

🎗️ MOVEMBER AWARENESS MONTH | NOVEMBER 2025 🎗️
🧔🏽‍♂️ Let’s Talk Men’s Health — Prostate Cancer vs BPH

Every November, the world observes Movember — a month dedicated to raising awareness about men’s health, especially prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and mental wellbeing.

This month, the Papua New Guinea Oncology Nurses Association (PaNGONA) joins the global movement to empower men across PNG to take charge of their health through early screening, open conversations, and preventive action. 💪🏽

🔍 Know the Difference:

➡️ Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH):
A non-cancerous enlargement of the prostate, common in older men. It causes difficulty urinating, weak flow, or frequent trips to the toilet at night — but it’s not cancer.

➡️ Prostate Cancer:
A malignant growth that may spread if not detected early. It can cause similar urinary problems, plus pain, weight loss, and fatigue. Early stages often have no symptoms — that’s why screening is key!

🩺 Men aged 45+, or those with a family history, should talk to a doctor about PSA testing and regular check-ups.

Together, we can break the silence and build a healthier future for all men in Papua New Guinea. 💙

The Papua New Guinea Oncology Nurses Association (PaNGONA) was honored to be part of the Pinktober Breast Cancer Awareness Event — a first-of-its-kind engagement with 35 inspiring African women living in Papua New Guinea.

Under the theme “Together We Can,” the event brought women together in solidarity to raise awareness, share survivor stories, and empower one another through education and conversation.

💗 We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Ms. Tatenda Brenda Majoni for inviting PaNGONA to this meaningful program. Your initiative has created a bridge of cultural connection and compassion in the fight against breast cancer.

As oncology nurses, we believe awareness saves lives. Together, we stand — across nations, colors, and cultures — in the global mission to end cancer through knowledge, unity, and early detection.
