Port Moresby General Hospital (PMGH) has strengthened its diagnostic testing capability with the successful installation and handover of a new Vitros 5600 Integrated System, following a week-long installation, calibration, and training programme completed on 1 June.
The new system, delivered through Meddent, part of the Brian Bell Group, in partnership with QuidelOrtho, replaces the hospital's previous Vitros XT4600 analyser and represents a significant upgrade for the PMGH Pathology Laboratory.
The Vitros 5600 is a fully integrated platform capable of performing both biochemistry and immunoassay testing on a single system, increasing laboratory efficiency while supporting faster turnaround times for clinicians and patients. The system is also designed to deliver high-volume testing using micro sample volumes, an important advantage for one of Papua New Guinea's busiest referral hospitals.
Representatives from PMGH, Meddent, and QuidelOrtho attended the handover ceremony. As part of the implementation, QuidelOrtho's international engineering team travelled to Port Moresby to complete the installation and provide hands-on training to laboratory staff, ensuring the laboratory team is fully equipped to utilise the system's expanded capabilities.
Director Medical Services at PMGH, Dr. Kone Sobi, welcomed the upgrade,
“PMGH is grateful with the upgrade of Vitros 5600 intergated system installed at the Pathologlogy department. This will strengthen the diagnostic system, and improve the turnaround time for doctors to provide the proper and correct diagnoses to patients on time."
Meddent General Manager, Jack Wall, said the project reflected a shared commitment to improving healthcare outcomes through reliable diagnostic infrastructure and ongoing support.
