Lip Fillers: Fact vs Fiction
Lip filler is one of the most talked about cosmetic procedures there is today. The treatment saw a huge rise in demand around 2015 when Kylie Jenner revealed she had the procedure done herself which made many people aware that the treatment existed. It also helped people to become more comfortable talking openly about any aesthetic work that they’d had done.
Whilst it is a minimally invasive treatment, the results can be life changing for many people and can boost their confidence. Lip filler can be used to increase the volume and shape of the lips, to correct any asymmetry issues or to create a more defined cupids bow.
However, the treatment takes a qualified, experienced practitioner and the results can go wrong if you use someone who isn’t an expert at creating natural looking lips. With that being said, with any cosmetic procedure that involves altering your appearance, naturally it comes with a whole load of controversy and scare-mongering myths which can put many people off! We hope to uncover some of these myths within this post and help you learn the facts.
✔️Statement One:
Lip fillers are permanent & cannot be reversed. = FICTION
This is one of the most common myths as people often worry that once they have the procedure the effects cannot be reversed. This is a myth and here’s why;
FACT= The ingredient that is within Lip Filler is based off a substance called Hyaluronic Acid – something that our bodies create naturally. As hyaluronic is naturally produced, over time the body will metabolise and break down the lip filler as it would the naturally produced hyaluronic acid, therefore dissolving the filler.

✔️Statement Two:
The ingredients in lip fillers is silicone. = FICTION
This is an outdated practice which is no longer used in the procedure. Silicone injections gave an extremely hard result which many people associate with “duck lips” and were also permanent which means that they could not be reversed.
FACT= Today, there are many different brands of lip filler, all of which use hyaluronic acid as the main component. Hyaluronic acid is naturally produced in the body itself and provides a lovely natural result without being over-done, however this does also depend on your practitioner.
This also means that the results are temporary so can either be built up and maintained over time with further treatments or left to dissolve naturally.
✔️Statement Three:
It’s excruciatingly painful & scary. = FICTION
FACT= Whilst some clients may experience some discomfort during the procedure, it should not be unbearable and numbing cream is applied topically prior to injection which makes it virtually pain free and will reduce irritation. Some practitioners use a dental block, however we believe that changes the shape of the mouth due to it being completely relaxed.
We use topical numbing cream which allows the mouth to remain in its usual, comfortable position, so we’re able to attain the most natural results.
