On May 19, 2026, the DOH-CLCHD, alongside Ms. Amethyst Castro, President of IMAP Region III-PPMA, successfully conducted the second batch of the Facility-Hosted Newborn Screening Training.

Meanwhile, Loving Mother General Hospital and Diagnostic Center invited resource speakers from the NSC-CL to conduct a NBS orientation for newly hired nursery staff nurses.

Through continuous promotion, education, and advocacy, we are empowering more healthcare workers to protect every newborn’s chance at a healthier future. ✨

Healthcare workers from the Cordillera Administrative Region and Central Luzon participated in the Newborn Screening Training conducted by the Department of Health – Center for Health Development on May 12, 2026.

The training aims to equip healthcare workers with the skills to collect NBS samples, ensuring their quality for timely and accurate analysis of results.

Feeding information is crucial in the interpretation of newborn screening results.

✅ Certain metabolic disorders, such as Galactosemia, can only be identified after the baby has ingested lactose.
✅ Babies on Non Per Orem (NPO) may not show detectable signs of certain metabolic disorders because the body does not have anything to metabolize.
✅ Babies on Total Parenteral Nutrition (TPN) receive amino acids intravenously, which can affect amino acid measurements
✅ Babies fed with soy formula have no lactose exposure, which can mask conditions like Galactosemia
