A Journey for 2025 : The Way of the Cross and Living Lent with Purpose (Apr 13 to Apr 20) - (1/5)
Topic No. 1: 📖 Luke 22:42 – “Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done.”
Reflection Focus:
Reflect on areas in your life where you struggle to surrender control. Are there desires, plans, or worries you’re clinging to? What would it look like to trust God more fully and let His will guide you, especially in times of uncertainty or suffering?
🌿 Self-Reflection: Letting Go, Leaning In: Trusting What We Cannot See 🌿
There are moments in life when we come face-to-face with situations that feel too heavy, too uncertain, or too far beyond our control. In those moments, our instinct may be to fix, resist, or run. But what if, instead, we leaned into surrender—not as a sign of defeat, but as a conscious act of trust?
Surrendering doesn’t mean giving up. It means choosing to let go of the illusion of control and allowing space for something greater—God’s wisdom, timing, and plan. This kind of trust often grows not in comfort but in discomfort, when life takes a turn we didn’t expect: a relationship ends, a door closes, or a longed-for answer doesn’t come.
Consider the person who spent years building a career only to be laid off unexpectedly. The initial response is fear—of losing stability, identity, purpose. But in the stillness that follows, something shifts. Maybe it’s a new path, a long-buried passion, or simply the clarity that worth isn’t defined by productivity. In that space of surrender, trust begins to take root.
Choosing to trust doesn’t mean you have all the answers—it means you believe that you don’t have to. It’s saying, “I don’t understand this now, but I’m open to what it might become.” The peace that follows surrender doesn’t come from knowing what’s next; it comes from knowing that you’re not walking the road alone.
Let this season be a time to loosen your grip. Whether it’s a decision you’ve been agonizing over, a relationship that weighs on your heart, or a future you’re trying so hard to figure out—step back, take a breath, and allow God to meet you in the release.
🙏💖 OUR PRAYER
Dear Heavenly Father, our God of mercy and wisdom,
You know how often I struggle to let go—how tightly I hold onto plans, timelines, and outcomes, believing that control will keep me safe. But You see the weight I carry, the tension in my heart, the fear behind my striving. I come to You now not with answers, but with open hands and a weary soul.
Teach me to surrender—not as a last resort, but as a daily act of love and faith. Help me to release what is not mine to carry, and to trust that Your ways, though higher than mine, are always rooted in love. When I cannot see what lies ahead, remind me that You go before me. When fear whispers its lies, speak louder with Your truth.
Lord, I long to trust You not just in moments of peace, but also in the storm. Shape my heart to believe that even in uncertainty, You are steady. Calm the waves that rise within me—the anxiety, the doubt, the impatience—and replace them with a deep, unwavering trust in Your presence.
Let Your Spirit quiet my racing thoughts and gently reorient my heart to Your will. I may not understand everything You are doing, but help me believe that nothing is wasted in Your hands. May I find joy not in the absence of struggle, but in the nearness of You through it all.
Lead me in surrender each day. Let me walk forward not by sight, but by faith—not gripped by fear, but held by grace. Help me trust not just in what You can do, but in who You are.
I surrender, Lord—again and again—and I trust that You are enough.
In Your holy name, we pray.
Amen.
