BIBLE REFLECTION

“Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.” (Isaiah 43:18-19 NIV)

Sometimes our past continues to haunt us. We become trapped by old failures, regrets, or hurts, making it difficult to move on. Isaiah 43:18-19 exhorts us to let go of these feelings that weigh upon us and trust God's plan for the future.

We should forgive ourselves for past mistakes, as we are imperfect human beings. We are reminded that God is doing something new for us in ways we never imagined. Therefore, surrender the burden of the past to Him, accept the things you cannot change, and trust that He will strengthen, comfort, and guide you as you move forward in life.

BIBLE REFLECTION

"Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath: For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God." (James 1:19-20 KJV)

Anger is not a sin, but what we do about it can either make us or break us. We all know that anger can lead us to spew hateful words that damage relationships. It can also result in conflicts or even violence, causing irreparable harm. A typical example of this is road rage, where a simple traffic incident can cause verbal altercations and aggressive behavior, quickly escalating into violence.

James 1:19-20 teaches us how to handle ourselves when emotions run high. We should listen carefully before reacting, think before speaking, and not allow anger to take control. Even when our anger is justified, it can make us lose our patience, humility, and self control, leading us away from the righteousness of God.

Before responding with hurtful words, listen to the other person and consider his or her perspective rather than just your own. Delay reacting immediately and pray mentally to God that He may grant you a calm spirit to respond to the current situation. Most often, seeking God's guidance and choosing to react calmly can help us avoid actions that we may regret afterwards.

A MAN OF GREAT FAITH

As Jesus was entering Capernaum, a certain Roman centurion beseeched him to heal his servant, who was seriously ill. Jesus acceded to the centurion's request and was poised to set out for the latter's home.

The centurion objects to Jesus' coming to his home. He said, "Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof: but speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed." ( Matthew 8:8 KJV)

By calling Jesus "Lord," he apparently believes that Jesus is a powerful person or perhaps even the Messiah. He understands that Jesus' power to heal is not limited by distance, and that only one word from Him will heal his sick servant. Jesus went on to say that he has not found so great a faith in all of Israel (Matthew 8:10). At that very hour, the servant was healed through His grace.

This story offers a valuable lesson for us: we too should emulate the Roman centurion by being humble enough to seek God's help when facing difficulties. Let us turn to Him in times of illness, hardship, or danger, genuinely believing in His power and mercy to come to our aid.
