🚨🚨 DIALYSIS EARTHQUAKE SAFETY: The Critical 60-Second Escape Guide 🚨🚨
When an earthquake strikes, being prepared means knowing exactly what to do mid-session when every second counts. For dialysis patients, medical staff, and families, panic-disconnecting can be life-threatening. Fortifying our clinics with immediate, systematic knowledge is just as important as structural infrastructure.
Please save, memorize, and share this vital 60-second protocol:
🛑 1. HOLD FAST (Habang Yumayanig)
DO NOT attempt to disconnect while the ground is shaking.
Patients: Recline, cover, and hold your access arm perfectly still to prevent needle displacement or vascular trauma.
Staff: Drop, cover, and lock machine wheels immediately.
🔴 2. STOP THE PUMPS
The exact moment the shaking stops, hit the Emergency Stop button immediately to halt blood flow. Every single second counts.
🔒 3. CLAMP ALL 4 LINES
This is the absolute non-negotiable, critical step to prevent life-threatening blood loss. Snap close all four clamps immediately—both on the Patient Side and the Machine Side.
✂️ 4. THE BREAK AWAY (Disconnect or Cut)
Free the patient from the machine safely but rapidly.
Normal Protocol: Unscrew the Luer-locks.
Extreme/Imminent Danger: Use medical shears to cut clean directly between the closed clamps.
🚶♂️ 5. THE EVACUATION (Secure & Go)
Apply immediate pressure/gauze to the access site, secure the patient, and evacuate the building. Do not use elevators as structural integrity may be compromised; always take the stairs.
⚠️ THE GOLDEN RULE TO MEMORIZE:
CLAMP FIRST. CUT SECOND.
Never cut or unscrew an unclamped line, or a patient can bleed out in minutes.
