Pinoy Bistek

Imagine the family gathering around the table, someone making sure everyone gets enough onions, and that irresistible spoonful of sauce poured over steaming rice.

Personally, Pinoy bistek is more than just an ulam. It is something that quietly says, "Welcome home."

It's a reminder that simple ingredients, prepared with care, can create something truly unforgettable.

Every Filipino family has its own version of bistek, but they all share one secret ingredient: the quiet love that turns an ordinary meal into a cherished memory.

It's one of those dishes that reminds us that home isn't always a place. Sometimes, it's a familiar taste that brings us back to the people we love. 💜

Two weeks ago, I had the opportunity to cook picadillo for the missionaries assigned to our ward, who warmly approached my non-member husband and offered him a copy of The Book of Mormon, even letting him choose the language he preferred. (That meant so much to me as his wife, and I will be forever grateful.)

My son came with me to the supermarket so we could pick out all the ingredients together.

As I was cooking, I couldn't help but think that the 4-5 hours I spent driving to the supermarket, grocery shopping, preparing, and cooking seemed so small compared to the two years these young men have willingly set aside to leave their homes and families to serve the Lord.

I know they don't expect grand gestures. But if a warm, home-cooked meal can remind them that they are loved, appreciated, and remembered, then it is time well spent.

I am grateful for missionaries who faithfully answer the Savior's call to "feed my sheep." Serving those who serve Him is truly a blessing. 💜

Last month, I walked through memories I didn't live, but somehow still feel.

I love the serenity that made me hold on to the moments a little longer.
